World's most powerful processor?

What is currently intel's most powerful processor and what is amd's most powerful.. and which one is the absolute best (the AMD or the intel one?)

not positive but i looked around and most of the responses to your question were "Intel Core i7-920XM Extreme Edition" for a laptop and "Intel i7-975" for a desktop , but don't hold my word too high because idk too much about computers, it's just what i read looking up the subject.

Intel's most powerful is the Core i7-980X.
AMD's most powerful is the Phenom II X6 1090T.

The 980X is more powerful but the 1090T is the better value.

I assume we're only talking about desktop/laptop processors. I'm sure there are some workstation and/or server processors which put the above to shame.

The least expensive Power7 box costs $34000...
...that's a one processor, 8 core, 3.0 GHz "Power 750 Express" box with 32 GBytes of RAM and two 73.4GB SAS disks.
