This is my first post here.
I have Norton 360 security and for a while whenever browsing the internet intrusion attempts would come up like clockwork every few minutes. The report said the severity was high. It shows me the attacking IP adress and target and some other stuff. It has stopped doing this for the most part now however it still comes every now and then. Another thing which started happening very recently (more recently than intrusion attempst started) when i search something on google it will redirect me to another site. Usually it is askjeeves or a similar site with what i posted in google entereed into it. It seems to go through phases of doing this and not doing this. One other thing is my moms email sent out emails to every one of her contacts about viagra or something like that.
Are these linked? How do I stop these from happening?
I looked up on the internet about trying to stop this repeated intrusion attempts thing and found some different answers. I noticed on one it said run "combofix". I decided to download it however before you download it says
"IMPORTANT : ComboFix is extremely powerful , You should not run ComboFix.exe unless you are asked to by a trained helper"
So I am looking for a helper who knows what they are doing. I am a complete computer idiot by the way
I've just looked again, there are a number of "Application paths" shown by Norton in security history. I dont know if this will help diagnose the problems but her they are:
- Severity: High, gives IP adress, apllication path:DEVICE/HARDDISKVOLUME1/WINDOWS/SYSTEM32/SCVHOST.EXE
- Severity: High, gives IP, application path: DEVICE/HARDDISKVOLUME1/PROGRAM FILES/INTERNET EXPLORER/IEXPLORE.EXE
- Severity: Medium, no IP "unauthorized access blocked (Open Process Tool)£
I'd much appreciate any help
