I wonder if someone can help!!!!

I'm not that great with computers and only use this laptop for work.
My operating system is Vista on a Packard Bell laptop which was working fine until yesterday.
Suddenly there was loads of pop-ups saying that my laptop was infected with various viruses and spambot's etc
As i've not had the laptop that long, i forgot to check the anti-virus software and there isnt any. (i know, what an idiot i am)

I know cant access the internet at all and my "security shield" is prompting me to buy a new anti-virus software package.
I've been told to download the free AVG software, but i cant even get onto the internet to get it.....
Luckily, i can still get access to my e-mail, and i've backed everything up to a storage device.
Someone also told me to try "sassaferun", is this correct?
Again, i cant get it as i've now web access

Does anyone have any ideas?

I'd run Avira free antivirus and free superantispyware.

get ccleaner and push the run cleaner button.

Thanks for the reply.
I'll give these all a go and see how i get on.
However, what would you suggest to get round the fact that i cant get onto the internet on my works laptop as google keeps crashing?
Would i be better downloading the CCleaner (portable) on a USB and uploading onto the affected laptop that way?

Thanks again.
