When my computer boots all that is shown is my desktop background and my mouse, this is the same in safe mode. I have tried almost everything but am stuck and need serious help! Through task manager, I have tried typing in C:/ into internet explorer to hopefully spark explorer.exe but that wouldn't work. I cannot locate my Windows XP CD either. How can i get my computer running normally again? Thanks for any information.

Hello.

Via task manager, click on File>New Task (Run. . .).

In the dialogue box that appears, type explorer and hit OK.

This should start Windows explorer. If it does not please let me know.

Have you recently had this machine infected with malware?
