I have 65 processes running....Is that high? And where is the best place to go so I can begin to understand what each of these processes are?

I have got 90 running so that must be fine. I have a related question though, and would appreciate any help. Occasionally, my CPU shoots up to 100% and the computer sort of hangs. This only last for a few seconds, and then all this fine. I have a feeling it is probably caused by some of my firefox addons. But is there a way I can analyse and find out the process that at that time is causing the problem, and therefore teh application. I mean the specific app that maybe causing this issue. On the Task manager, it only shows that firefox is using the hugest memory but I want specific details, like what addon for example might be causing this issues.
