Hi there, I am here as a last resort.

Have been far to ashamed to show my ignorance by posting before but here goes nothing!

My computer was infected by a usb key given to me by someone. My antivirus caught the attack and deleted various files. Since the delete of these files I have been experiencing error messages on startup such as "Windows cannot find svc.exe. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search a file, click the Start button, and then click Search" (svc.exe NOT svchost.exe). It also throws a registry error relating to svc.exe. I cannot run internet explorer and I cannot download any executables in firefox. Occasionally I will get visual studios crashes regarding iexplorer.exe or explorer.exe. I will attach my hijackthis log. Thank you to anyone who can offer any advice as I am currently at my wits end.
Tracey

Nothing relating to iexplorer seems to run. Even the internet options in the control panel have disappeared and when I locate inetcpl.cpl in windowssystem32 and double click on it nothing happens.. I tried running as admin too but no avail.. Please help if you can. Desperation is setting in..

EDIT: Posts merged ~BP

EDIT: I deleted F3 - REG:win.ini: load=C:\WINDOWS\svc.exe
This has got rid of my startup errors. The other errors persist. Waiting patiently smile.gif

EDIT: This has been resolved. I reinstalled svchost by putting in my installation cd. running
"expand D:\svchost.ex_ C:\windows\system32"
and installing updates from microsoft download center.

The computer then allowed me to install iexplorer. I downloaded the .exe from another computer.
This reinstated my internet options in the control panel and so I could change the security settings back to default and allow downloads again.
Everything seems hunky dorey at present and no errors have been thrown but watch this space tongue.gif

**RESOLVED**
