re installed xp home and now I have no sound

Re installed windows and now I have no sound, I have googled and tried a number of things like installing drivers etc but nothing has helped here is some info on my my computer which is a Dell

Computer:
Operating System Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition
OS Service Pack Service Pack 2
DirectX 4.09.00.0904 (DirectX 9.0c)
Computer Name PAUL
User Name Owner

Motherboard:
CPU Type Intel Pentium 4, 2400 MHz (12 x 200)
Motherboard Name Dell OptiPlex GX270
Motherboard Chipset Intel Springdale-G i865G
System Memory 512 MB (DDR SDRAM)
BIOS Type Phoenix (06/26/06)


let me know if you need more info. the last driver I tried to install it got all the way through the wizard and said cannot find driver please reboot and I did that and the same thing happneded again.

you'll need to install the chipset drivers first.

Next run windows update.

Then...reinstall the correct audio drivers for your system.

OK I am up to the part of reinstalling the drivers but I do not have the disk and when the wizard searches for them it says they cannot be found?

the only one that has a big yellow mark beside it now is the multimedia audio controller is that what is causing there to be no sound?

Installing the above link should get the sound up and running.

Be sure to run Windows Update, it will provide you with all the latest drivers as well as security updates for the system.

THANK YOU SO MUCH as soon as installed that driver and the computer started shutting down to restart I heard the windows tune its been weeks since I had sound, you have made my day =)
