hello again!

Now it's time to fix up my father-in-law's computer. I've been maintaining it every few months for the last few years, it gets infected frequently, slows down tremendously but he won't buy a new computer. So far I've been fine with AVG, MBAM etc, but this weekend, I updated the computer at Windows Update, and got it all updated, even SP3. But now it's even worse. I can't type in any internet windows (such as this one or yahoo search window) I can't get a cursor to show up on the screen. I can still click on links, so was able to download DDS and GMER and will post the logs here. ( I had to copy them to a disk so I can look at them here and post them using this computer.)

Hello

I Would like you to do the following.

Please print out or make a copy in notpad of any instructions given, as sometimes it is necessary to go offline and you will lose access to them.

Run Combofix:
Please visit this webpage for download links, and instructions for running the tool:

    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix

Please ensure you read this guide carefully and install the Recovery Console first.

The Windows Recovery Console will allow you to boot up into a special recovery (repair) mode.
This allows us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.
It is a simple procedure that will only take a few moments of your time.

Once installed, you should see a blue screen prompt that says:
The Recovery Console was successfully installed.
    Please continue as follows:
    • Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.
    • Click Yes to allow ComboFix to continue scanning for malware.

When the tool is finished, it will produce a report for you.

Please include the report in your next post:

    C:\ComboFix.txt

"information and logs"
In your next post I need the following
    1. Log from Combofix
    2. let me know of any problems you may have had
    3. How is the computer doing now?

Gringo

OK, Combofix has run. Still unable to type in internet windows.
Oh, one of the problems I found when this problem first came up was that I was unable to use System Restore. It would open, but the date screen to select an earlier restore point was blank, and it timed out.

anyway thanks again for your help, here is the Combofix log.

Greetings

Good That cleaned up some bad guys but I see some other stuff that we need to go after, so I want you to run this custom script for me.

:Run CFScript:

Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the box into the window:

CODE
File::
c:\windows\system32\SET47E.tmp
c:\windows\system32\SET471.tmp
c:\windows\system32\SET473.tmp
c:\windows\system32\SET477.tmp
c:\windows\system32\SET478.tmp
c:\windows\system32\SET479.tmp
c:\windows\system32\SET47C.tmp
c:\windows\system32\SET47D.tmp

Save it to your desktop as CFScript.txt

Refering to the picture above, drag CFScript.txt into ComboFix.exe

This will let ComboFix run again.
Restart if you have to.
Save the produced logfile to your desktop.

Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall

"information and logs"
In your next post I need the following
    1. report from Combofix
    2. let me know of any problems you may have had
    3. How is the computer doing now after running the script?

Gringo

no changes that I can see. still can't type in IE windows. even after a re-start.
computer did start up faster it seemed, but that may be because I removed AVG, Spybot S&D, and turned off Windows Defender.

After it ran, it did say it had some issues to report, and would automatically send them, but the internet connectivity is shaky with that computer since I just moved it from F-I-L's house and plugged it into our router. It said it saved the file for me to forward manually, but now I can't find the file.

Here's the new combofix log.

Well I got the following RUNDLL Error window when I tried to run Fix-it.

Erorr loading inetcpl.cpl
The operating system cannot run %1.

I had no luck running it manually either, and have no access to Internet Options, it tells me to contact an administrator.

Next??
