Hi
I will be handling your log to help you get cleaned up. Please give me some time to look it over and I will get back to you as soon as possible.
Everyday is virus day. Do you know where your recovery CDs are ?
Did you create them yet ?

I am having the exact same thing happening! It's driving me crazy!

Exact same file name, exact same location.
I have done exactly what norton says to do, scan in safe mode, etc.
I have scanned every which way and it won't find the virus.
I have searched the registry and can't find it...

But still it pops up again and again saying the same thing:
trojan:killfiles, hostx.exe

I quarantine it and delete it and it keeps coming right back. How can I tell where
its' coming from so I can get totally rid of it?

using Norton Systemworks Pro 2004
Windows XP Home

thanks in advance for any help,
JD

@julid
If you have a similar problem please open a new topic and post your hijackthis log..

Please download the latest version of HijackThis!: Download here 1.98.2
Save it in a permanent folder such as c:\hjt, execute HijackThis.exe, and post the log.

@tonyjenming

Make sure you are set to show hidden files and folders:
A. On the Tools menu in Windows Explorer, click Folder Options.
B. Click the View tab.
C. Under Hidden files and folders, click Show hidden files and folders.
D. Uncheck Hide extensions for known filetypes and Hide protected operating system files.
How to see hidden files in Windows

Run HijackThis!, press "Scan" and tick the boxes next to all these, close all other windows and browsers, then press "Fix Checked" button.

REBOOT

Search for these files and delete them if found:
C:\WINNT\twaintec.dll <-- this file
C:\WINNT\system32\zchiqpm.exe <-- this file

Run HijackThis! again and post a new log. hostx.exe aka Virtumonde needs special attention.
