[font=Comic Sans Ms][size=5] Multiple people use this computer. I got on one day and found a couple of new programs installed, so I uninstalled/deleted them. Ever since then, I've been having problems. The curser, actually the hourglass, blinks repeatedly. I've also been having fatal errors. When I start my computer, it takes a long time to get to the log on screen- the screen is black during this wait. I have ran spybot- regularly and from the command prompt in safe mode. I've also ran KASFX. The blinking of the hourglass has slowed somewhat. Although, all of this doesn't interfere too much with the day to day use of the computer, I still know something is very wrong. The errors sometimes say something about App.- DLL.- no clue what that is. Also, in the Windows Task Manager, the CPU usage is at 100%- and that wasn't the case just yesterday- it was fluctuating from 10%-13%- if that means anything. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

David,
Hi! I have been doing a lot of different things to my computer since my last post, including running Ccleaner and A-squared. I also did a start-up program search with Autoruns, and after some research found 1 bad program that was in there 3 times, and then removed it. My computer is running much better- no blinking hourglass- but startup is still a bit slow, and the computer sometimes freezes when shutting down. I'm sure there's still things I can do and have missed, so for my own peace of mind please check out my new HJT Log. I know you guys are busy, so take your time  Thanks a lot!

Also, I no longer have McAfee, can I "fix" that O23 entry? And one more question, what is AOLServiceHost.exe? - 2 of them run on startup.

Thanks,

Go to add/remove and uninstall ViewPointManager

While TeaTimer is an excellent tool for the prevention of spyware, it can sometimes prevent HijackThis from fixing certain things.
Please disable TeaTimer for now until you are clean. TeaTimer can be re-activated once your HijackThis log is clean.
  • Open Spybot Search & Destroy.
  • In the Mode menu click "Advanced mode" if not already selected.
  • Choose "Yes" at the Warning prompt.
  • Expand the "Tools" menu.
  • Click "Resident".
  • Uncheck the "Resident "TeaTimer" (Protection of overall system settings) active." box.
  • In the File menu click "Exit" to exit Spybot Search & Destroy.
With IE closed, run Hijack This again.
Put a checkmark on these entries and hit "fix checked":

Computer completely froze upon shutdown. When I go Start > Shutdown, nothing happens but the hourglass. Then I did control+alt+delete> restart, then it says "windows is shutting down" (blue screen) and then that's where it stays.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ViewMgr] C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Manager\ViewMgr.exe----wasn't on hijackthis log.

When I was having more problems a few days ago, when I would shut down it would have numerous errors saying, "PACPCNS4.EXE-DLL INITIALIZATION FAILED" and "QOSXEXPS.EXE-DLL INITIALIZATION FAILED" if that means anything.

Well the hijackthis log is now clean!

Download CleanUp!
  • A window will open and choose SAVE, then DESKTOP as the destination.
  • On your Desktop, click on Cleanup40.exe icon.
  • Then, click RUN and place a checkmark beside "I Agree"
  • Then click NEXT followed by START and OK.
  • A window will appear with many choices, keep all the defaults as set when the Slide Bar to the left is set to Standard Quality.
  • Click OK
  • Click on the "Cleanup" button and let it run.
  • Once its done, close the program.
See if this helps anything?

Download WindPFind

Extract WinPFind.zip to your c:\ folder.

Reboot your computer into Safe Mode

Then open c:\WinPFind and double-click on WinPFind.exe.
When the program is open, click on the Start Scan button to start scanning your computer. Be patient as this scan may take a while.
When it is done, it will show a log and tell you the scan is completed. Reboot your computer back to normal mode and and post the contents of c:\WinPFind\WinPFind.txt as a reply to this topic.

David,

I ran Cleanup and got rid of 2GB's!! Computer still froze on shutdown through the START button, but when I did Ctl+Alt+Del>restart, after a bit of a wait, it did restart- so I didn't have to pull the plug this time. I am now going to download and run WinPFind.zip. I'll post the log for it in a few.

Now turn off System Restore:

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.

Restart your computer, turn System Restore back on and create a restore point.

To create a restore point:

Single-click Start and point to All Programs.
Mouse over Accessories, then System Tools, and select System Restore. In the System Restore wizard, select the box next the text labeled "Create a restore point" and click the Next button.
