Hey all,

I have an HP pavilion dv6748us laptop. Now my problem is Windows made some automatic updates just the other day and once those updates took I now have no sound on my laptop. My audio icon has a red X next to it which states "No audio output device is installed when the cursor is placed over it. I googled the error message which suggest that I go into device manager and update the drivers. I tried that and no change. I did a search on my computer for sound and clicked on the audio icon and it read no audio device installed. I went to HP support site and downloaded all three of the audio drivers for my model of computer, still nothing. I went to the microsoft website and ran the audio diagnostic test and it could not resolve the problem. Now I don't know what else to do. I need help it is beyond my limited knowledge on this issue. By the way I'm running windows vista on this computer. Thanks in advance for any help given.

Thoroughly confused,
Yours Truly,

Go to device manager and right click on the audio driver and click uninstall then restart the computer. If there isnt an option to uninstall please post back. What bit is vista is it 64 bit or 32 bit?

computerxpds,

Okay I've uninstalled my sound and my High definition audio controller then I restarted my computer and nothing has changed. I went add add legacy hardware but then I didn't know the specifics of the devices I needed to add, i.e. manufacturer and model. How do I find that out?
