Hello. I was asked in another thread to do some scans and post here.

Out of nowhere, I got some kind of virus/malware/adware. I'm a rather experienced PC user and I've tried to fix this, and searched everywhere but to no avail; that's why I'm here. This is an HP Pavilion dv7-1135nr laptop with Windows XP Professional SP3 installed. I'm using the Internet wirelessly through a Belkin F5D8233-4 v4000 router.

Symptoms:
  • Google links redirect 90% of the time on the first page only (green text shows "Infomash" most of the time, links go to bitstub.com)
  • Firefox's search engine (keyword.URL) changes to hxxp://search.search-go.net/?sid=10101049100&s= (don't visit) every browser restart
  • With AVG LinkScanner on, unable to use the Internet (not even AVG's Update Manager)
Here is a screen-shot showing the main problem at the moment. Before, I was unable to connect to the Internet, Windows Firewall turned off, and services weren't turning on. So I ran an AVG scan, found and removed a few things, and it worked fine on restart with just these symptoms. I'll search something on any search engine and any browser, and most of the time it'll show altered results in the first page. The links go to hxxp://bitstub.com/public/go.php?to=****** (don't visit). The second page of results will show my real results. I'm just worried it's bad enough to where I shouldn't enter any important information into the PC.

What I've tried:
  • MBAM scan - Found and removed a few Rootkit.Droppers (80[A/C/8].tmp), Trojan.Clickers (seupd.exe and random *.htm), a Malware.Packer.Gen (mrcsxenawo.tmp) and 2 randomly named Adware.BHO's
  • AVG - Found and removed trojan horses Agent2, FakeAlert, Generic18, and SHeur3
  • TDSSKiller scan - Found and deleted after reboot "vqzyv.sys" and associated services
  • Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool scan - "Alureon.H" found but actions unknown (no second scan)
  • GooredFix scan - Looks clean, unsuccessful in fixing redirects
  • Looked for/removed suspicious start-up programs/services
During an MBAM scan, Resident Shield in AVG was pulling up a few infections. I think that's when it found the trojan horses.

I was able to run and receive a log in DDS, but I couldn't get GMER to work. It would start its scan and then lsass.exe would take 50% of my CPU (1 core). Also, CCC.exe (ATI Catalyst Control Center) was taking ~25% and GMER was taking ~25%, until I ended CCC.exe and then AVG's Watchdog started taking CCC's place at ~19%. I ended THAT and AVG's other components took the rest of the CPU. I tried using GMER twice (had to shutdown via the power button), the first time about an hour and the second time about 3 hours...

This is my grandmother's PC; not mine. I just want to know if she can use it and input important information without fear of getting it stolen. The only symptoms are the ones I listed above.

DDS log:

Sorry to bump, but I fear my post has fell down pretty far.

EDIT: Please be patient. There are over 400 unanswered topics in this forum at present and the current average wait time to receive help is about a week. ~BP

Welcome to the BleepingComputer Forums.

Since it has been a few days since you scanned your computer with HijackThis, we will need a new HijackThis log. If you have not already downloaded Random's System Information Tool (RSIT), please download Random's System Information Tool (RSIT) by random/random which includes a HijackThis log and save it to your desktop. If you have RSIT already on your computer, please run it again.
  1. Double click on RSIT.exe to run RSIT.
  2. Click Continue at the disclaimer screen.
  3. Please post the contents of log.txt.
Thank you for your patience.

Please see Preparation Guide for use before posting about your potential Malware problem.

If you have already posted this log at another forum or if you decide to seek help at another forum, please let us know. There is a shortage of helpers and taking the time of two volunteer helpers means that someone else may not be helped.

Please post your HijackThis log as a reply to this thread and not as an attachment. I am always leery of opening attachments so I always request that HijackThis logs are to be posted as a reply to the thread. I do not think that you are attaching anything scary but others may do so.

While we are working on your HijackThis log, please:
  1. Reply to this thread; do not start another!
  2. Do not make any changes on your computer during the cleaning process or download/add programs on your computer unless instructed to do so.
  3. Do not run any other tool until instructed to do so!
  4. Let me know if any of the links do not work or if any of the tools do not work.
  5. Tell me about problems or symptoms that occur during the fix.
  6. Do not run any other programs or open any other windows while doing a fix.
  7. Ask any questions that you have regarding the fix(es), the infection(s), the performance of your computer, etc.
Thanks.
