I recently installed a 2Wire 2701HG Modem/router supplied by my ISP when I upgraded to faster service. I then tried to hook up my Brother MFC 490CW to the router so I could use it with my laptop from anywhere in the house. When I was reinstalling the software to my computer I could not get it to find the printer. I am running windows vista ultimate on my dell 1520 inspiron, and widows vista home premium on my desktop. before i tried to connect it over the network, i tested it via the usb cable to my desktop and it printed with no problems.

To summarize, i need help connecting my brother printer through a 2Wire gateway to my laptop.

Here's an PDF (adobe reader needed to view) of your owners manual. http://www.2wire.com/pages/pdfs/2701HG_user_guide.pdf

This is your installation guide. http://www.2wire.com/pages/pdfs/2701_installation_guide.pdf

Hope these help you, make sure you enter the setup utility of your 2701's software, in other words, the chip built into the gateway device, you can log into the device through your computer's web browser by following the instructions in the manuals.

If this device has DHCP make sure it is enabled.
