i noticed that when in safe mode some drivers aren't used and since the files could open while in safe mode could the problem be a driver? if it is how do i find out which one it is? or is the problem my hard drive? i did a scan on my hard drive and it said it's been powered on for 19,163 hours. is the hard drive just burnt out? or is it the operating system? the comp does have a designed for windows 2000 or windows 2000 COA sticker but im using XP for this, could that be a problem? or is it something else w/ the os?
specs on the laptop (an old one):
compaq evo n610c
2GHz Pentium 4 processor
40GB HD 4GB free
Windows XP sp3
i cleaned up the comp and registry w/ "winutilities" yesterday. i, also, defragged it and disabled some startup programs and deleted some files to free up space while in safe mode, also ran a virus check, but files still won't open in regular mode.
