Problems with some pop-ups like rouge anti-virus programs and poker sites. I have and run daily; ad-aware and ewido. The same things keep coming up. If I cleaned it with these programs why does it keep coming back? I seem to have tracking cookies that keep coming up; tribalfusion and Esomniture. I don't know what to do. Any help would be great.

Download CleanUp 4.0, install and run it. This program will clean out all your temporary internet files.

Download the trial version of Spy Sweeper from Here

Install it using the Standard Install option. (You will be asked for your e-mail address, it is safe to give it. If you receive alerts from your firewall, allow all activities for Spy Sweeper)

You will be prompted to check for updated definitions, please do so.
(This may take several minutes)

When Spy Sweeper has updated, reboot to safe mode.

Boot into Safe Mode:
Restart your computer and immediately begin tapping the F8 key on your keyboard.
If done right a Windows Advanced Options menu will appear. Select the Safe Mode option and press Enter.

Open Spy Sweeper and click on Sweep and allow it to fully scan your system.

When the sweep has finished, click Remove to remove any items found. Save the log.

Exit Spy Sweeper.

Reboot to normal mode and post the results from Spy Sweeper along with a new Hijack This log.

Hi,
I ran CleanUp 4.0, but the site spywareaid seemed to be having some problems.
I can't run Spysweeper because I already did and used my 15 day trial a few months
ago. When I tried to download it again and run it, it kept taking me to the area to buy or close.
But I did run an Ad-aware scan and am posting the results of that scan.

  • Launch ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop, double-click it.
  • The program will now open to the main screen.
  • You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files.
    • On the left hand side of the main screen click update.
    • Then click on Start Update.
  • The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
(the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful")
If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update ewido.
ewido manual updates

Once the updates are installed do the following:
  • Boot your computer to Safe Mode. Restart your computer and immediately begin tapping the F8 key on your keyboard. If done right a Windows Advanced Options menu will appear. Select the Safe Mode option and press Enter.
  • Click on scanner
  • Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
  • NOTE: During some scans with ewido it is finding cases of false positives.**

Please download the free MWAV antivirus tool from here.
Save it to the desktop and run it. Follow the prompts to scan your system for viruses. Then please post for me the log of infected files from the BOTTOM panel of the scan window.

Please run the Housecall online virus scan located at:
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/housecall/start_corp.asp
Follow the prompts to scan your hard drive for viruses. Select the "Autoclean" option so that Housecall will remove any viruses from your system.
When the scan is finished, please restart your computer.

Then please run the Panda scan here:
Active Scan Choose to "Disinfect automatically," and follow the prompts. Delete any viruses found, and restart your computer.
Have it delete anything it finds and post the scan report along with a new Hijack This log.

Finally, please run the WindowSecurity trojan scan here:
http://www.windowsecurity.com/trojanscan/
Remove any trojans found, and restart your computer.

Then, post another Hijack This log and let me know if you have difficulty with any of the scans.

Reconfigure Windows XP to show hidden files:
Click Start. Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options. Select the View Tab.
Under the Hidden files and folders heading select "Show hidden files and folders".
Uncheck the "Hide protected operating system files (recommended)" option.
Uncheck the "Hide file extensions for known file types" option.
Click Yes to confirm. Click OK.

Navigate to this file and delete what I show in bold:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\cmuerfos.dll

I need to know the names of the files that could not be accessed or deleted.

Also, update Ewido and run it in Safe Mode. Restart your computer and immediately begin tapping the F8 key on your keyboard. If done right a Windows Advanced Options menu will appear. Select the Safe Mode option and press Enter.

Post a new Hijack This log along with the report from Ewido.

I am sorry i didn't specify in my last reply.
Ewido doesn't find anything. Housecall was the one that
found files it couldn't access or delete. I went in and manually
deleted them. I just ran Housecall again and it found nothing.
I deleted the cmuerfos.dll. I ran Spybot and it found nothing.
Norton found nothing too. Panda scan found

I did a general search of the computer and found nothing so I searched
regedit. and found 1 entry under current user microsoft search assistant.
I deleted it. I hope that was what I should have done.

Seems a lot better. Not too many if any pop ups any more.
It seems that every few months this happens to me. Even if
I scan every day with all my anit-virus, spyware programs.
Do you have any suggestions to keep my computer safe
that doesn't require a lot of money?
