Hi, normally I'd go to an introduction forum first and introduce myself, but when my computer's like this, I really need to work on it.

I find it sad how I have some adware/spyware advertising about how I should get adware/spyware protection, but I guess that's how the world works...

Hello,

It's better to print out the next instructions or save them in notepad, because you also have to work in safe mode without networking support, so this page wouldn't be available then.
It is also important you don't miss a step and perform everything in the right order!!

I see you have Viewpoint installed. This is foistware and in most cases not installed with user permission, so I recommend you uninstall it via software > add/remove if still present.
Reboot afterwards.

I see you are running Teatimer.
I suggest you to disable it because it can interfere with the changes you'll make on your system.
When everything is done and your log is clean again, you can enable it again.
If teatimer gives you a warning afterwards that some changes were made, allow this instead of blocking it.
How to disable TeaTimer during HijackThis Cleanup
Then, Download ResetTeaTimer.bat.
Double click ResetTeaTimer.bat to remove all entries set by TeaTimer;

Download smitRem and save the file to your desktop.
Doubleclick it and choose install. This will create a new folder on your desktop with the name smitrem.

Please download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite here:
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/

Please read Ewido Setup Instructions
Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files. Do NOT run a scan yet.

* Reboot into Safe Mode`: ( without networking support !)
°To get into the Safe mode as the computer is booting press and hold your "F8 Key". Use your arrow keys to move to "Safe Mode" and press your Enter key.

* Start HijackThis, close all open windows leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following if still present:

O2 - BHO: HomepageBHO - {3bf1f86f-b1a8-489b-8d8b-43781d51411f} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\hp8E5A.tmp

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ViewMgr] C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Manager\ViewMgr.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [BioniXWallpaper] "C:\Documents and Settings\Jon\My Documents\BioniX Wallpaper v5.1 RC1\BionixWallpaper5.exe"

* Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.
Make sure your Internet Explorer is closed when you click Fix Checked!

* Open the smitRem folder, then double click the RunThis.bat file to start the tool. Follow the prompts on screen.
Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish.

* Now open Ewido Security Suite
Click on scanner

* Click Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
* During the scan it will prompt you to clean files, click OK
* When the scan is finished, look at the bottom of the screen and click the Save report button.
* Save the report to your desktop

* Close Ewido

* Go to start > control panel > Display properties > Desktop > Customize Desktop... > Web tab > uncheck and delete everything you find in there. (except for "My current home page")

* Reboot back into Windows.

* Perform an onlinescan with panda: (please use this scanner instead of any other scanner!)
Panda Online
Check: All my computer
Make sure everything is checked in the scan options.
Afterwards, when the scan is done, you'll get the option to save the report/log.

Save the scan log and post it along with a new HijackThis Log, the log smitfiles.txt (which you will find on your C:\) and the Ewido Log by using Add Reply.

It could be possible, after reboot that your system is using the windows classic theme again.
To restore this and set it back to XP-theme, rightclick on your desktop > properties > tab Appearances and choose Windows XP style again under windows and buttons.
Click apply and OK.

Hello,

Your hijackthislog looks OK.
Still some things to delete manually.. so delete next files:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Online Security Center.url
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\ot.ico
C:\WINDOWS\warnhp.html

Also look if next is present and delete it:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Security Troubleshooting.url
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\ts.ico

delete the icons present on your desktop which say Online Security Center and Security Troubleshooting.

Let me know how things are running afterwards.

Deleted the five files. Heh... it's funny. Those two files did appear on my desktop. However, since I knew I'd never look at them, I deleted them as soon as I first saw them!

Anyway, things are definitely running better. I'm also never told that I have spyware on my computer every 2 seconds anymore! :flowers:

I was a bit disappointed that you said that Bionix Wallpaper thing should be removed (from the HijackThis log). The reason why I had it was because this EXCELLENT Sonic modeller gave me tons of his art and I wanted them all to randomly display on my desktop. Is there a program that you know of that's safe that'll do something similar to Bionix Wallpaper?

Thanks a bunch. Since you said my HJT log is clear, I'll re-enable TeaTimer.

Hi,

Good things are running much better now.
About that Bionix wallpaper, I didn't let you delete it, but I still have my doubts about this program, that's why I disabled it from starting up with windows. You can always manually start it. But as you said, if you really like it, you can restore that entry in hijackthis again by opening hijackthis > config (bottom right) > backups and select the BionixWallpaper5.exe entry and choose restore.
So it will be started up with windows again next time.

To keep this clean in the future, I would suggest the following things:

Install Spywareblaster
SpywareBlaster doesn`t scan and clean for so-called spyware, but prevents it from being installed in the first place. It blocks the popular spyware ActiveX controls, and also prevents the installation of any of them via a webpage.

Avoid illegal sites, because that's where most malware is present.

Let your antispywarescanner(s) scan frequently and don't forget to update before.

And I do suggest you perform an online virusscan once in a while. (Housecall and/or Bitdefender). Because what one virusscanner can't find another one maybe can.
Also make sure that your virusscanner, the one that is installed on your system is always up to date!

Make sure your windows has the latest updates: http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/

If you are having XP SP2, read here how to configure Security Features for Internet Explorer:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/...xp/iesecxp.mspx

Happy surfing again! :flowers:

Okay. One last thing. When during the steps you gave me. I was on the part about Viewpoint and there were two things about Viewpoint. One was Viewpoint Media Player (I think that was the name). Anyway, I didn't know what that was but since it said Viewpoint, I thought it might be related to what you said so I removed it along with the other thing. Now, my SuperBuddy Icon of my cute bunny doesn't show up in AIM anymore. When looking at the AIM expressions, I tried to get another to appear and it asks me to install that Viewpoint Media Player again.

Is this an okay program or was it really the bad thing along with the other Viewpoint program I found and removed? If it really was bad, I can live without my bunny.

As for these other programs, I'll get them right now and bookmark the two virusscans you said.

Thanks for all your help! ^_^

Hi, viewpoint media player is harmless, but as I said, it is foistware which means that it gets installed without explicit permission. You only want AIM expressions, but you have to install Viewpoint Media Player as well to get it.
Anyway, if you really want your bunny  , yes please, install it again. :D

Thanks a lot!
