G'day folks/.....I have a HP Media Centre 7595A....running XP MC...SP3...I am toying with the idea of upgrading the CPU....the object?....is to have more speed and more processing power....I note that when I am running Convertx to dvd, there is no cpu left over for anything else.(approx 92%)
WHERE do i look to get the necessary information....ie how "upgradeable" is the motherboard......which particular CPU will 'fit' and give me the least hassles re compatibility etc etc..... am a bit of an amateur, but i figure if i never ask....I will never know!!

Your CPU upgrade options are very limited, and not likely to yield sufficient improvement to justify the cost and trouble in my estimation.

The M7595A uses a P5BW-LA mainboard which uses P965 chipset, and the motherboard specifications say the highest performance category of CPU supported is Core Duo E6x00 series. The fastest E6x00 for P965 is the E6700, 2.66GHz & 4M cache, compared with 2.13GHz & 2M cache currently. It would be faster, assuming the BIOS recognises the CPU, which is not guaranteed - brandname manufacturers supply their own custom BIOS and can annoyingly limit them to CPUs that they expect to fit to a model.

The P965 chipset can support the X6800 Extreme, 2.93GHz & 4M cache, but again there is no certainty the HP board would be able to utilise it.
