Hi
As near as the figures point to , it is about 75% PC to about 25% Mac - Vey hard to get any exact answer from either side -
But that is also based on the figures that Mac users keep their units at least 50% longer than PC users -
So sales are more like 85-90% PC to 10-15% Mac - Confused - Almost as much as I was when you asked

What percentage of the worls

:flowers:

For worldwide market share, the math is simple. PC makers sold 79.48 million PCs around the world, using my standard system of averaging the IDC and Gartner numbers. That means the Mac now has 3.86 percent market share worldwide. I'm guessing that's a lot lower than you were expecting. But math is math, and as I've tried to explain for several years now, strong quarterly sales growth (17 percent in Apple's case) doesn't amount to much actual real world gain when you're already starting from a very small position comparatively.

(Recent sales = the last 12 months) Even more confusing

I think ReviverSoft went out and counted them personally. Just shows you the lengths that BC goes to get things accurate.

According to Wikipedia

Common contemporary desktop OSes are Microsoft Windows (92.77% market share), Mac OS X (5.12%), Linux (0.95%)...

Source: Wikipedia - Personal Computers

This makes it very hazy since all of them can run on a PC now.

My aging desktop runs Windows XP. There are two programs that I really want to keep using, and they're keeping me chained to Windows.

My netbook runs Ubuntu, a Linux distro. I fire up the Windows desktop in the evening, but I'm on the netbook all day long. And I just plain enjoy Linux -- whereas Windows has never been anything but a bother to me.

It's PC Vs Mac, not Win Vs Linux.

@noknojon

No problemo. It's a valid question that doesn't have a definite answer. :flowers:

Well, there certainly should be some way of determing how many "non-Mac" PC's have been sold versus how many Mac PCs have been sold.

Clearly, we need to define terms since, arguably, a Mac is a personal computer.

As an aside - I wonder if the other side of Animal's cup is a Bleeping Computer logo?
