Wanting to connect my laptop to tv.

Laptop has only std. firewire and mini firewire sockets. VGA socket and USB.

TV is a CRT. It has S-Video and Yellow/Red/White phono sockets plus small jack.

Is there a VGA to S-Video adaptor so I then could use my double ended S-Video cable?

My wife's laptop has a S-Video socket so that connects ok but mine has not.

Yes there are, and they can be pretty cheap too (<$1 including shipping).
