First let me say that I am very new to computers and therefore, technically challenged at the moment. That said, I sincerely hope you can help me resolve my computer issues. Starting school in two weeks.

I have a DELL laptop Inspiron E1505 running Windows XP that I purchased in 2006.

Here are the diagnostics:

Computer will turn on.
Computer opens to desktop but can't open ANY programs, get on internet, open documents but I CAN open photos.
Security alert on desktop says "Spyware Alert - Vulnerabilities found - 34 serious threats"
Then a window opens with an internet porn site.
Not sure if I have any type of virus protection on this computer--can't access my control panel.

Don't know where to start to begin the clean up, recovery and getting my computer in operation again.
Thanks in advance for your help!
