We had a pop up two days ago to say we had Antivir Pro on our computer. We used Spyware to remove this but it must have still beeen around as today it was back. This morning the computer refused to boot windows and just hangs on a black screen. We are a bit worried that when we run the hard drive diagnostics it comes back with an error code of 7 (it is a Samsung HD160jj/p) and from the Dell website this looks quite serious. We have all the reinstall disks for Vista and the drivers but if possible we would like to retrieve the files and data as a lot of it is photos of the kids (most backed up thankfully).

I have run the hard drive tests and they have come back with the following error messages :

SATA Disk S/N=SODFJ1MLCO5457 - Read Tests
Error Code 0F00:0244
Msg: Block 33656542 : Uncorrectable data error or media write protected

Verify Test
Error Code : 0F00:1A44
Msg: Block 33656542 : Uncorretable data error or media write protected

Any help very gratefully recieved. Can we retrieve the files and if not do you think it is possible to restore the computer by reinstalling windows ? And if so can anyone help ? Thanks so much - wish I knew a bit more about computers !
