Hello and welcome to Bleepingcomputer.

Are there any signs that the computer is booting up, such as hard drive activity, system beep codes or any status showing up on the laptop console?

To offer you further accurate assistance can you please pick your laptop from the list on this HP web page and post back which model number you have.
Please pay special attention to the letters at the end of the model numbers on this page and point me to the correct one.

Many thanks in advance.

Bruce.

Please check this HP link and post back if your DV2310US is included in this list, you'll see a bunch of numbers in a box at the top of the screen when you click this link. such as GA154UA etc.

Your laptop may be eligible for a free repair.

If yours is NOT included, please let us know this.

Bruce.

Yeah I know how you feel, you spend a lot of money on a piece of hardware that you still have to spend a lot of money on to keep it going and yet its an manufacturer problem/defect.

I see where there was a recall on the battery for this laptop as well, which ended May 19 2010, did you take advantage of that recall?

For what it is worth I am going to at least link you to the full support pages for your laptop. http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/product...;submit=Go%20»

Its entirely up to you if you feel the repair cost is worth it or purchasing a newer computer is a better option.

I would hope if you replaced the motherboard that you do not end up with another faulty motherboard, but at least with the new board you will have a warranty which will cover you in the event something goes wrong.

Bruce.
