About two days ago I got hit with AntiVir Solution Pro. It's a nasty little bugger; these guys must have had a lot of fun designing this malware. They sure don't have your best interests at heart.
At first, it was so bad that I couldn't open safe mode or regular mode, just got a blank screen. I ran an XP repair and the computer is now running better, meaning at least I have access to safe mode and regular mode. However, it is still blocking virtually all applications, even in safe mode. I don't mind reformatting, since most of my data is backed up or unimportant, but the number of hours of reinstalling all the programs is a pain, so I'd just prefer to find a way to remove this malware.
In the past, I've run MalwareBytes to remove these kinds of infections, almost always successfully. However, even in safe mode it won't open, and I get error messages obviously caused by AntiVir Solution Pro. The first error message I get is from the vbAccelerator SGrid II Control, and reads, "Run-time error of '0'". When I hit okay on this message, I get a second error message, stating, "Run-time error '440."
On other pertinent piece of info: I was able to install ComboFix and had begun to run it. However, I stopped when I received a messae stating that Norton Antivirus conflicts with with ComboFix, and I could risk data loss or damage if I don't first disable Norton. Problem is, AntiVir Pro is blocking me and wil not let me romove or disable Norton.
Here are my questions:
1. If I can get it to go, should I just go ahead and run ComboFix anyway, despite the warning about the conflict with Norton?
2. Is there a way to get around this program and delete Norton? I NEVER use it and can't stand it.
3. If I can get to my files in Safe Mode, should I transfer them to a flash drive? They appear transferable. I bought a small dedicated thumb drive to do this. Is it possible these few files are infected and could infect the flash drive and/or another computer, or are they most likely okay? There are only about 20-30 files.
4. Lastly, Is there a way to fix this run-time error so I can then run MalwareBytes in Safe Mode?
This is a wonderful forum. Thanks in advance for any insights I receive for this problem. You guys rock.
