Hello,

Hijackthis is still in your temp-folder, so I strongly advise to create a permanent folder and move hijackthis.exe into it. The reason is because hijackthis creates backups and when it's in your temp-folder it can be accidentally deleted.
How do you make a permanent folder:

Click My Computer, then C:\ and then on Program Files.
In the menu bar, File->New->Folder.
That will create a folder named New Folder, which you can rename to "HJT" or "HijackThis".
Now you have C:\Program Files\HijackThis. Put your HijackThis.exe there.

Please perform this first before proceeding with next steps.

You may want to print out these instructions for reference, since you will have to restart your computer during the fix.

Please download FixWareout from one of these sites:
http://downloads.subratam.org/Fixwareout.exe
http://swandog46.geekstogo.com/Fixwareout.exe

Save it to your desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, then make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish. The fix will begin; follow the prompts. You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so. Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.

When your system reboots, follow the prompts. Afterwards, HijackThis will launch. Please click Scan, and check the following items:

O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{2D825B19-4B63-4201-84BD-9A5DA0840B51}: NameServer = 69.50.166.94 69.31.80.244
O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{5CC67C98-C21F-4220-A8FF-BDE3B2FAD8D7}: NameServer = 69.50.166.94,69.31.80.244
O17 - HKLM\System\CS1\Services\Tcpip\..\{2D825B19-4B63-4201-84BD-9A5DA0840B51}: NameServer = 69.50.166.94 69.31.80.244

If you see an entry as well in your O4 lines in hijackthis, starting with cs... for example:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [csnvo.exe] C:\WINDOWS\System32\csnvo.exe
(filename is random, but starts with cs...) or another random one starting with dm.....
Check it as well.

Click Fix Checked. Close HijackThis, and click OK to proceed.

At the end of the fix, you may need to restart your computer again.

Finally, please post the contents of the logfile C:\fixwareout\report.txt, along with a new HijackThis log.

Hey miekiemoes,

Thanks for your quic reply ! Followed your steps, however had to stop after running fixit the first time..... So I don't know if the fixit log is correct..... So when I got back I started over. Only 1 "017" showed up to fix in Hijack.............

O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{5CC67C98-C21F-4220-A8FF-BDE3B2FAD8D7}: NameServer = 69.50.166.94,69.31.80.244

I fixed that !

WINPATROL notified me of a "HOST FILE CHANGE"
C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
which I ACCEPTED asuming it was a result of "fixit"

Spywareguard and Winpatrol both notified me that " my home page had been changed"
to HTTP://www.microsoft.com/isapi/redir.dll?p...ver=gar=msnhome
I DID NOT accept that and kept my old home page.

During my researh of this pest. I found a few other posts around which suggested that

O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {CD67F990-D8E9-11d2-98FE-00C0F0318AFE} - (no file)

was bad ! ! ! should I delte this ?????????

Also I saw some AOL crap whih I thought I deleted all..Can I delete this

O23 - Service: WAN Miniport (ATW) Service (WANMiniportService) - America Online, Inc. - C:\WINDOWS\wanmpsvc.exe

without doing harm ????????

Anyway heres my fixitlog and Hijackthis log

Fixwareout ver 1.002
Post this report in the forums please

Reg Entries that were deleted

PLEASE NOTE THAT ALL FILES FOUND BY THIS METHOD ARE NOT BAD FILES, There WILL be LEGIT FILES LISTED. IF YOU ARE UNSURE OF WHAT IT IS LEAVE THEM ALONE.

Hello,

First delete next file:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\iecust.dll

What exactly went wrong while running fixwareout?
Yes, fixwareout restores your hosts again, that's why winpatrol is giving that alert.

I see you still didn't move hijackthis to a permanent folder as I asked you and it is still in your tempfolder.

Spywareguard and Winpatrol both notified me that " my home page had been changed"
to HTTP://www.microsoft.com/isapi/redir.dll?p...ver=gar=msnhome
I DID NOT accept that and kept my old home page.

Well, the fix restored your homepage to it's default, the url above. Please accept it in your SpywareGuard and Winpatrol this time. You can reset that back later to your startpage.

I suggest you run fixwareout once again.

O9 - Extra button: (no name)-{CD67F990-D8E9-11d2-98FE-00C0F0318AFE} - (no file) is a leftover from realplayer, so yes, you may check and fix that in hijackthis.

Also I saw some AOL crap whih I thought I deleted all..Can I delete this

O23 - Service: WAN Miniport (ATW) Service (WANMiniportService) - America Online, Inc. - C:\WINDOWS\wanmpsvc.exe

If AOL is used, this should not be touched... however, as you said, you deleted all related AOL, which means you don't use it anymore.
But a good advice, never start fixing things in hijackthis to delete legit programs! If you want a program being deleted, you have to uninstall it.. because hijackthis mainly deletes keys in the registry.
In this case, if you check and fix above entry, it stops the service and sets the startuptype to disabled. So that's ok if you don't want to use it.

Let me know how things are running afterwards, if you are still having some problems.

Hi miekiemoes,

I thought I did put HijackThis in A C:/...... Went to My Comp. Opened C:? , started new folder, dragged and dropped HJT temp into it, and created a shortcut to desktop.......... I don't deal with too many zip files so maybe I did something wrong........

Anyway, I deleted

C:\WINDOWS\System32\iecust.dll

as instructed, I ran another HJT and the 2 "017" that didn't show before were there so I deleted them

O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{2D825B19-4B63-4201-84BD-9A5DA0840B51}: NameServer = 69.50.166.94 69.31.80.244

O17 - HKLM\System\CS1\Services\Tcpip\..\{2D825B19-4B63-4201-84BD-9A5DA0840B51}: NameServer = 69.50.166.94 69.31.80.244

I tried a couple of the "INFECTED" sites. Don't seem to get the PORN but it either shows a COMPLETELY BLANK PAGE or "This page cannot be displayed".... So apparently there is still a problem............

When I ran fixit the first time we had a power outage due to a nearby fire. When power was restored I ran fixit again ... The second log was the one I sent in...Couldn't find the first........

Also I AOL came with my comp. when it was new but I never installed it. I deleted everything I've found since. I can't seem to delete it from HJT log....

O23 - Service: WAN Miniport (ATW) Service (WANMiniportService) - America Online, Inc. - C:\WINDOWS\wanmpsvc.exe

Thats where I'm at now.....Any more suggestions will be appreciated...

THANKS AGAIN,

TEEDUB2

Hi,

Also I AOL came with my comp. when it was new but I never installed it. I deleted everything I've found since. I can't seem to delete it from HJT log....

Well, it was installed though, otherwise it won't run as a service.

If you really want that service being disabled, perform next:

* Go to start >run and type: services.msc and click OK
Scroll down in that list until you find the service WAN Miniport (ATW) Service
Doubleclick on it. In the window that will appear, click on "Stop" (if not greyed out) and change the Startup Type to disabled.
Click apply and OK and close all open windows.

Normally this is what Hijackthis does if you check and fix that entry in hijackthis, but you just said it won't get fixed.
If you're having problems after disabeling it as I instructed before, just enable it again (start the service and set startuptype to automatic)

I tried a couple of the "INFECTED" sites. Don't seem to get the PORN but it either shows a COMPLETELY BLANK PAGE or "This page cannot be displayed".... So apparently there is still a problem............

Actually that is good news though, because SpywareGuard or Winpatrol or spywareblaster (if you have it installed) blocks access to this page.

If you really want to be sure if the infection is gone, please perform next:

Download Silent Runners
Unzip it to a permanent folder.
Read here how to unzip/extract properly:
http://metallica.geekstogo.com/xpcompressedexplanation.html
Start SilentRunners.vbs
When your antivirus is giving an alert, do not block this. Allow the script.
When the scan is done, notepad will open with a log in it. Please close this again. I'll need that log later. Normally that log is saved automatically in your silent runners-folder.

Then..

Download and Save blacklight to your desktop.
F-Secure Blacklight: http://www.f-secure.com/blacklight/try.shtml
Double-click blbeta.exe then accept the agreement.
leave [X]scan through windows explorer checked,
click > scan then > next,
You'll see a list of all items found.
Don't choose for rename yet! I want to see the log first, because legit items can also be present there... like "wbemtest.exe"
There must be also a log on your desktop with the name fsbl.xxxxxxx.log (the xxxxxxx stand for numbers).
Copy and paste this log in your next reply together with the silent runners-log.

HEY miekiemoes,

I tried to get on Bleeping comp. this morning but kept getting a message which read:

IPB WARNING [2] mysql_connect(): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/usr/local/databases/mysql.sock' (111) (Line: 132 of /ips_kernel/class_db_mysql.php)

SQL error: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/usr/local/databases/mysql.sock' (111)
SQL error code:
Date: Saturday 29th of October 2005 11:42:35 AM

Don't know if that was due to my "PEST" or not.

Anyway, I did some browsing today and sure enough the "PORN" redirects were back not quite as bad though...

If this helps I'm redirected to these sites:
findferns.org
searchentire.org
bangetsearch.org
directoriessearch.org
There are more... Most all have "search" or "find" in URL....All URL's ending in "=dname"

I'm pretty sure I got HijackThis in a perm. folder. I have a "dynamite" icon now.......

So as you suggested I ran Silent Runners and Blacklight along with Hijack.

One other note, tried updating CWShredder (it told me there was an update) it failed.....I get a zip icon on desktop and when I try to open it I get an information window which says "Bad zip header found"

Here are my logs............

Hi,

Northing in Silent Runners or Blacklight-log though.
The SQL error was related to this forum, so you don't have to worry about that. But as you say, those O17's are still back and you still get redirected, so some things must be still hiding.
So let's take a look in safe mode now and perform next:

Download winpfind

Reboot in SAFE MODE !! Important !!
°To get into the Safe mode as the computer is booting press and hold your "F8 Key". Use your arrow keys to move to "Safe Mode" and press your Enter key

Doubleclick winpfind.exe
Click start Scan.
It will scan for a while, so please be patient.
Let it finish the job.

Reboot back to normal mode.

Post the contents of winpfind.txt which is present in the winpfind-folder in your next reply.

Hi miekiemoes,

Here is myWinPFind log.....

I still haven<t deleted the 017's yet from Hijack..

WARNING: not all files found by this scanner are bad. Consult with a knowledgable person before proceeding.

If you see a message in the titlebar saying "Not responding..." you can ignore it. Windows somethimes displays this message due to the high volume of disk I/O. As long as the hard disk light is flashing, the program is still working properly.

Hello,

I see nothing suspicious though..
Please run Fixwareout once again and when Hijackthis Opens at startup, check and fix the O17 entries in it.

But before doing this, I want you to disable spywareguard and Winpatrol, because it can make the changes back undone.
When they are giving an alert afterwards, please allow it instead of blocking it, because those are the changes you made yourself.

If the entries come back again in hijackthis, please perform next:

Close your IE

Go to start > run and copy and paste next command : ipconfig /flushdns Click OK

In the windows control panel. If you are using Windows XP's Category View, select the Network and Internet Connections category otherwise double click on Network Connections. Then right click on your default connection, usually local area connection for cable and dsl, and left click on properties. Double-click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item and select the radio dial that says Obtain DNS servers automatically.
Press OK twice to get out of the properties screen and reboot if it asks.
That option might not be available one some systems.

It's a good thing those entries were already gone. Maybe Winpatrol or Spywareguard *did interfere with it before?
Let me know afterwards after some surfing. Normally, those entries will reappear if you just open IE.
If not -- then you're ok.

HI miekiemoes ,

Well sure enough they were back along with the "017's" ..........

So I followed your steps:

I tried to run "ipconfig /flushdns" which only flashed a black window briefly !

Followed next steps and got into "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)" and changed the radio dial to "Obtain DNS servers automatically". (The #'s in the DNS server addy were the same as the problem "017's")

I ran HJT again and the "017's" were gone !!!!!!!!!!!

NOTE: When I was in my internet connections I noticed that my default connection had "SHARED" ,Firewalled.
I don't remember ever seeing "SHARED" before..... Is that a problem ?????

So I went browsing again and it seems so far that the PORN IS GONE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is there anything I should do now ?

What was the "pest"?

I will keep my fingers crossed and let you Know if anything changes in the next few days.......

THANK YOU miekiemoes for your QUICKNESS , TIME and PATIENTS..! ! ! ! !

Hello,

Yes, the obtain DNS automatically works in most cases where the O17's are stubborn even when the infection is gone.

The shared, firewalled is OK. Read here for more info:
http://www.oreilly.com/catalog/winxpnut/ch...ch07.html#28397

Just a small, but important thing I noticed. I see you are having Avast and AVG installed.
Never install more than one antivirusscanner or firewall on your system! Several together can give problems and decreases the reliability of it seriously!
That's why I recommend you uninstall Avast or AVG.

To keep this clean in the future, I would suggest the following things:

Install Spywareblaster
SpywareBlaster doesn`t scan and clean for so-called spyware, but prevents it from being installed in the first place. It blocks the popular spyware ActiveX controls, and also prevents the installation of any of them via a webpage.

Avoid illegal sites, because that's where most malware is present.

Let your antispywarescanner(s) scan frequently and don't forget to update before.

And I do suggest you perform an online virusscan once in a while. (Housecall and/or Bitdefender). Because what one virusscanner can't find another one maybe can.
Also make sure that your virusscanner, the one that is installed on your system is always up to date!

Make sure your windows has the latest updates: http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/

If you are having XP SP2, read here how to configure Security Features for Internet Explorer:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/...xp/iesecxp.mspx

More info on how to prevent malware you can also find here (By Tony Klein)

Happy surfing again! :flowers:

Hi miekiemoes,

Ran another HJT scan and two new "017,s" showed up.....

Everything still seems fine though I'll post it below so you can check them out.....

Already have Spywareblaster..

I'll uninstall AVG . I like avast better. It has auto updates. Seems to find things AVG doesn't. Updates are faster...

Here is HJT log:
