EDIT: Moved and combined into one post. logs are here: Security > Virus, Trojan, Spyware, and Malware Removal Logs ~~boopme

I know I am supposed to make just one Post per Problem, however this is all one problem that has multiple effects and POSSIBLE causes. I REALLY need to find the Cause, which would garner the Solution but I will take any help I can get!
I was told by the SecurityGuru guy at Yahoo! Answers to try here. He gave me one possible solution, but I don't want to risk getting my computer damaged because I elected to turn off my Anti-Viral to see if it is a conflict if it is a Trojan.

So here we go... as background, last month mid-month I seemed to get a virus on my computer despite Avast! being up to date. Now, I do not know if this was part of the Googler Zero occurance, or if I got it doing the o nly thing I Was doing at 2:30 in the morning, role-playing in Yahoo Chat. Now, someone else in the Chat also got this same virus and it killed her PC outright when she restarted because of the lure of the virus. I however, did not. It locked down most of my programs but I ran Windows Live support and killed enough of the virus, since it prohibited me from using Notepad, Avast!, and numerous other programs but I could use IMs, IE, and other venues this virus likely uses to travel. So I took my back-up one month trial of Panda Security, and ran it. This cleared out the virus, as much as it could for all I know.

I saved my game saves, chatlogs, and other irreplacable data and last weekend I formatted the HDD and reinstalled windows Because-
My internet started to act up, badly. It was like a leak on the wireless. How do I know this? It caused a drain on the other computers in our household network, but my computer was downright unable to connect at all. We switch Routers since we have two, the D-link being more reliable networking wise but is very old. The other, a Belkin-(n?) we are currently using work it just conflicts with the Xbox 360 at times. Also I switched my Wireless hard, to be sure the antenae that likes to get loose is not the cause, so I am now using a USB wireless card. The cable company was called on monday and they ran tests on their end, saying the connection was 100% so the issue is within our own network. Incase this was the virus' remnants, I then Format and Reinstalled my Windows XP.

Since reinstalling I got the full Googler Zero fix'd Windows Update, I did not put Avast on at all but continue to use my Panda Security since it is more effective. I haven't even transfered a tenth of the files off of the External HDD onto this one. I actually put on the files from my original save of my HDD so I know it isn't a piggyback issue.

Well, the internet started to act up again roughly a week into this new slate. I did go on Yahoo, and into Chats albeit iwth a Proxy server and now I use Pidgin since it should, and is lessening the follow effect. I have suspicious if this is some kind of Trolling hacker who is exploiting backdoors or something, since...

Internet itself remains strong, according to Window's as it says my connectivity is Excellent. BUT I get hiccups, where I get kicked and then get back on easily, and other times it kicks me off and has trouble Finding the Server/Connecting at all. When I do use Yahoo, it sometimes, and 'regularly' but without specific timing, I can just expect it to happen every 10-15 mins, I get kicked off of Yahoo and not my normal internet. Although sometimes they happen in tandem, my programs like AIM and Skype are NOT effected by this, unless it is a total web disruption. By using Speakeasy we've been able to detect and notice the Major Lag problems synonymous with the internet drop-outs because the 5 Mb/s we normally get can drop down to 1 Mb/s on the other computers, and for my PC or the laptop I used earlier today, it plumits to .01 Mb/s.

I have ran HijackThis! on my PC today, and on the laptop JUST before it kicked out, and I downloaded HiJackThis! while my internet was in the sub 1 Mb/s and at the 1 Mb/s phase. We use Roadrunner HiSpeed. All Network PCs are Windows XP, the only exception is my mom uses 7 and it hardwired into the router. I was told to try run things without Panda Security to see if this helps, but since I had a similar problem with the virus and I do not want to invite in more trojans..

I will Spoiler the HiJack logs so I don't make this page impossible to scroll down for replies. Someone please help??? Thank you!!!

My apologies, I cannot figure out how to Quick Access the Spoiler option...
So Blue will be Laptop Run, if the color is not obnoxious Red will be my PC Run with Yahoo running but not in a Chat. Untouched Black will be the PC Run without Yahoo running, or any other program. Fresh off a Turn On.

Again to reiterate, Blue is an HP Laptop with XP at time of bogged connection, no Yahoo nor Pidgin, just Skype and the browser. Red is the PC of mine, the target source of problems, with Yahoo running. Black is my normal PC at Startup. Thank you immensely for time, effort, and most of all consideration!

Hello and welcome to Bleeping Computer

We apologize for the delay in responding to your request for help. Here at Bleeping Computer we get overwhelmed at times, and we are trying our best to keep up. Please note that your topic was not intentionally overlooked. Our mission is to help everyone in need, but sometimes it takes just a little longer to get to every request for help. No one is ignored here.

If you have since resolved the original problem you were having, we would appreciate you letting us know. If not please perform the following steps below so we can have a look at the current condition of your machine.

If you have not done so, include a clear description of the problems you're having, along with any steps you may have performed so far.

Upon completing the steps below another staff member will review and take the steps necessary with you to get your machine back in working order clean and free of malware.

If you have already posted a DDS log, please do so again, as your situation may have changed.
Use the 'Add Reply' and add the new log to this thread.

Thanks and again sorry for the delay.

We need to see some information about what is happening in your machine. Please perform the following scan:
  • Download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links. Save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
  • A small box will open, with an explaination about the tool. No input is needed, the scan is running.
  • Notepad will open with the results.
  • Follow the instructions that pop up for posting the results.
  • Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.
Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run. After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection. Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet.

Information on A/V control HERE

We also need a new log from the GMER anti-rootkit scanner. Please first disable any CD emulation programs using the steps found in this topic:

Why we request you disable CD Emulation when receiving Malware Removal Advice

Then create another GMER log and post it as an attachment to the reply where you post your new DDS log. Instructions on how to properly create a GMER log can be found here:

How to create a GMER log

Thank you Shannon, sorry I didn't include all of the Logs/Scans you'd require. I did have to resort to Avast again since I am doing as I was asked, and keeping installing new programs to a minimum. My Panda 'demo' requires I reinstall it regularly so I will just use Avast for now. Trying to avoid viruses at all costs. I will try to be more specific in my Issue:

I cannot be any clearer about my problem sadly, all of this logging is the best I can do. All I know is my wireless is being drained and it cannot be detected within the network, nor by the internet provider. Like I said, it is not my wireless card, I switched them to be sure. Fresh install, no warnings, no blue screens, nothing even comes up when I use the scan from IE when I'm disconnected. My Yahoo freezes if it doesn't boot me outright, sometimes the IE works and it is only Yahoo being bad, other times everything takes a dive. My Wireless Connection -claims- it has Excellent reception, full 5 Mb/s, Speakeasy tells me the real ratings which get as high as 4 and as low as .10, since my Connection doesn't always disconnect entirely but draws to a crawl. I don't use any other program 80% of the time. I have to restart the Router to get back on, and *sometimes* 10 minutes later I still get a lack of connection. Nothing is consistant, I've been able to stand on my own for years and solved most virus issues. Googler Zero patch is out so I don't understand, that shouldn't be a source of concern either. We cannot detect it if there is someone in the network besides us, hijacking the connection.

Even *then* it would have to be alot. When we have a Canadian band here, 3 PCs 6 laptops and my Xbox don't even cause this much connection disarray. I cannot tell if this is effecting the Xbox 360 directly or not, since our Belkin router isn't supported by Microsoft very well and I get disconnected alot, but I don't even use the Xbox until 2 am and my PC is off so I do not believe this is a factor. IF I should unplug the Xbox when it isn't on I can. We have a blind cat I don't want him chewing on a loose wire so I leave it plugged in all the time. As such, I'm terribly sorry I don't know what the problem could be. Yahoo Questions/Answers Tech support guy sent me here, and I check the site when I can, since its so erratic.

============= FINISH: 13:21:42.68 ===============

I have attached the ARK Gmer file and the Attach file as requested. I hope this proves insightful and helpful. I'll do whatever it takes, but I need to be sure this issue is resolved before I put another 100 gigs onto my PC and able to get online to maintain and upkeep my machine. Thank you very much again, sorry for the newbism and have a great time in the meanwhile of this grand service you are doing me. Iwon't put Emulators on here until later, Daemontools has that problem so I will use PowerISO to play my Playstation disc that got damaged after this is fixed.

welcome.gif to the Bleeping Computer Malware Removal Forum
, My name is Elise. I'll be glad to help you with your computer problems.

I will be working on your malware issues, this may or may not solve other issues you may have with your machine.

Please note that whatever repairs we make, are for fixing your computer problems only and by no means should be used on another computer.

You may want to keep the link to this topic in your favorites. Alternatively, you can click the button at the top bar of this topic and Track this Topic, where you can choose email notifications. The topics you are tracking are shown here.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Please be patient and I'd be grateful if you would note the following:
  • The cleaning process is not instant. Logs can take some time to research, so please be patient with me. I know that you need your computer working as quickly as possible, and I will work hard to help see that happen.
  • Please reply using the Add/Reply button in the lower right hand corner of your screen. Do not start a new topic.
  • The logs that you post should be pasted directly into the reply. Only attach them if requested or if they do not fit into the post.
  • Unfortunately, if I do not hear back from you within 5 days, I will be forced to close your topic. If you still need help after I have closed your topic, send me or a moderator a personal message with the address of the thread or feel free to create a new one.

In the meantime please, do NOT install any new programs or update anything unless told to do so while we are fixing your problem.

COMBOFIX
---------------
Please download ComboFix from one of these locations:
  • Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. (Click on this link to see a list of programs that should be disabled. The list is not all inclusive.)
  • Double click on Combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
  • As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.
  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.
**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, or if you are running Vista, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.

regards, Elise
