I got as far as step 6/7 for Malware bytes to remove this pesky thing but can't launch it. Message indicated can't find file or or filepath (don't recall exactly). Anything obvious I should be looking at?

Have you tried running Rkill beforehand to shut down any processes that may be blocking Malewarebytes? Also, have you tried downloading Malewarebytes with a random name (see steps 7-9 at this link http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/virus-remo...t-security-2010 )
