My computer crashed. Black screen of death. I was on a site called Registry Patrol. Bad site.
I got a message that said nltdr. missing. Press control alt delete to restart.

I managed (don't know how) to get back into windows (sorta) using my administration. But much is gone. Many programs are missing. I am stunned. I'm a writer and can only say Thank God for USB. Everything else is lost.

Now what do I do? I can still get on windows but most of it is gone. Do I reformat? What? I knew this would happen one day. I'm not sure what I even did. System restore is totally missing. Anyone want to lend a hand? Joanna

System manufacturer and model?

Did you attempt to do a system restore to factory defaults?

Programs don't ordinarily just disappear...it usually takes user action to make them disappear.

Dell Latitude D510

System Restore hasn't worked for months.

Many times when things go wrong, I look to see what I did wrong, usually my error. This time I think the computer crashed. I just don't know why. I have been able to open windows but most of my programs are gone.

Appreciate your rsponses...but you did not answer my question about trying to revert the system to factory defaults.

It's an important question...I'd appreciate a direct response.
