I saw that especially on Twitter, if someone is posting a link to a youtube video for instance, the url is "youtu.be." And for Ustream.tv, it's "ustre.am."

How do they get these, as I'd like to start using them in Twitter.

There are a lot of url shortening services out there but some are automatic when you're using a particular service or website. I think it's doubtful that you can call those two up to order.

They're buying short domains. For example with my site, I took its initials and added .info (ex: abcxyz.com became acz.info).

Then manually add redirects as needed. I used ".info" as it seemed to be the shortest I could get, considering most short .com/.net/.org domains are taken, and Godaddy had a sale for .99cents on them

I see! When you click "Share" on Youtube for example, and click "short Url" you get the youtu.be link. Yay! I'll still use bit.ly though. it's still shorter. Thanks guys!
