thinkpad x41 w/ winxp tab ed sp3
I am getting multiple error messages when I try to access device manager, run chckdisk, etc.
For chckdsk I got " ULIB.dll [UNTFS.dll] Internal Error: Translated boot messages are too long or missing", but for several others I got "Run a Dll as an App has encountered problems and needs to close". Googling didn't get me any answers, but I wondered if a problem running dll's is the basic problem.
When I try to open device manager thru rclick local disk > properties > hardware tab explorer crashes, then I get a message that the dr. watson debugger has crashed.
When I try to open device manage thru run > devmgmt.msc I get the message that "MMC has detected an error in a snap-in". I get the same message when I open computer management, which opens ok but there is no device manager. Isn't device manager in computer management?
So I think I have a problem w/ Run a Dll as an App and a missing mmc console. I just did a reinstall from recovery disks onto a new hdd a few weeks ago and I wasn't using this computer much until my laptop blue screened. I don't know how windows gets so messed up so quickly.
Any ideas on where to start?
