basically, my cd-rom ejects without my permission. particularly when I am playing my game- it ejects, i then recieve an error message which shuts down my game. Also when I shut my laptop, sometimes when I wake up in the morning the cd-rom is ejected.

I dont know if this is from a dying cd-rom? or malware? I am currently finishing the process of cleaning my computer in the Malware section of the forums. And my helper suggested I come to this side of the forums to seek further help.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Mitchell

In most cases, that would be a symptom of a dying drive

"In most cases, that would be a symptom of a dying drive " - Ah, I was hoping that wasn't the case  Do you know why it only ejects when I am playing my game or after i close my laptop? And do you know for certain if thats the case, or if theres any other way I can diagnose the problem to find out for sure.

Thanks,
Mitchell :flowers:

There is basically no tool to diagnose an optical drive.
The main reason, you can get brand new one, shipped for under 30 bucks.

- Okay cool, I just wasnt sure if that was normal/expected behavior of a dying cd-rom. And do you know if the process of replacing a cd-rom in a laptop is difficult. And/Or would bleepingcomputer be able to help me with the process?

Thanks for everything,
Mitchell

You'll have to double check with your manual for details.
Usually, you just unscrew one screw and you should be able to slide the drive out.

P.S. Laptop drive may be slightly more expensive.
