Hi,

I was wondering if anyone knows of a free software like Google Earth which I can use as a map and for directions.

I was wanting to download Google Earth itself but from what I understand, it requires internet access. Please correct me if I am wrong there.

I am looking for something that does not require constant internet access to function, except for when downloading updates.

Any suggestions?

What about something like GPS software for laptops? Would that work? Has anyone tried anything like that?

I can't find anything worth while that is free, or not web based.

You're welcome. But by no means should my search mean that something doesn't exist. Just that I was unable to find anything I felt was worthy of suggesting. Hopefully other members may know of, or find something that fits your needs.

I know of software that doesn't require internet access but it isn't free. One is Streets & Trips by Microsoft: http://www.microsoft.com/streets/en-us/default.aspx

Thank you for the suggestion JonM33. I have already looked into that particular software but am not able to afford it at the moment. However, I will keep looking and will let you guys know if I come up with something useful.
