For the first time my computer froze twice in a unique way. I'm on the computer not gaming or doing anything that put stress on the system and all of the sudden the screen goes to vertical purple and blue stripes. Everything freezes and I can't do anything but hit the restart button. Any ideas?

Thank you!

Sounds like a video driver is going into fits. Tell us more about your computer specs and what you have updated, if anything.

CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 5600 2.80 GHz
RAM: 4 GB
Windows 7 home premium 64 bit
Video Card: ATI Radeon HD 5700 series
Mother board: Gigabyte S-series AM2 M61P-S3

The only things I have upgraded are my video card, went to windows 7, and installed 2 more sticks of RAM. I havent had any problems until now.

See, if same thing happens in safe mode.
If not, then, most likely, you need to reinstall/update video driver.

If yes, then, probably something wrong with the card itself.
