Is there text editor alternative to Microsoft Word?

Is there any free but good text editor which can be used as alternative to Microsoft Word ?
I have Winodws XP.

I mean one can be downloaded , not online tools by Google.

I use Open Office for Text plus and you can make a pdf, can also make Presentations and spreadsheets

And they have a forum
