Hello -

I am malware free now (thanks to EB in the malware forum!) however, chkdsk is unable to be performed in either loading Windows or in the Recovery Environment.

I have some corrupted files for a couple of my programs and I can't uninstall the programs or reinstall over the programs. I can't manually delete the corrupted files either.

Help is much appreciated!

Go Start>Run ("Start Search" in Vista/7), type in:
sfc /scannow
Click OK (hold CTRL, and SHIFT, hit Enter in Vista/7).
Have Windows CD/DVD handy (with Vista/7, most likely, you won't need it).
If System File Checker (sfc) will find any errors, it may ask you for the CD/DVD (rarely in Vista/7 case).

Hi Broni! Thank you for your quick response. Ok say I followed your instructions and ran sfc /scannow (CONTROL + SHIFT + ENTER), and the command prompt came up and it got as far as "verification phase of the scan 100% complete." Then the prompt closed and I didn't see anything else. I did this twice. Did the actual scan run? Once again big thanks!!!

"sfc" won't give you any message, so if it started to run, it, most likely ran successfully.

See, if chkdsk will run now.

Broni! You did it! Thanks a ton, chkdsk ran (while I was sleeping haha) and I woke up to find my previously corrupted programs fully functional. Thanks again for your help.

Cheers,
