HP G62
Intel Core i5 processor
4GB RAM
500GB 7200 RPM hard drive
1 month old

This afternoon it suddenly decided it wants to pretend the BUILT-IN webcam doesn't exist. Doesn't even acknowledge its existence anymore, out of the blue. Tried updating the drivers, but I can't because the installer tells me I need to have an HP webcam to do that. Nothing shows up in the device manager. Haven't installed any new software that would make this happen out of no where. Youcam says there's no webcam either, so does Windows Live, Skype, etc. The webcam itself wasn't hit or damaged. Already tried a system restore. What's the problem here?

Here is a link to HP G62-154CA Notebook PC support of Windows 7 64 Bit drivers and utilities. http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwar...product=4142862

Please make sure all the drivers from this page are updated for Windows 7 support.

Here is a pdf version of your owners manual, look for information here regarding your web cam.

The manual only talks about adjusting webcam settings and all that... but my laptop doesn't even say there's a webcam installed so the manual doesn't really do anything for me... All drivers should be up to date according to my HP update program that was pre-loaded with the laptop.

Also Youcam won't open at all now. It used to just open and show a blank screen saying "No webcam connected" or something along the lines of that, now when I double click it doesn't open at all, nothing happens. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling, same thing.

Think you might have to contact HP Support in this regard.

For the notebook to not detect the webcam hardware, is a little strange.

I don't have HP MediaSmart Webcam installed... and Youcam has to be compatible with this OS because it was preloaded on it and worked fine for over a month

Weird.. out of no where I just saw it on my Skype options for video.. it came back out of no where. It shows up as "HP Webcam 101" like it used to. That's really weird. Thanks for all the help though guys, and please keep this thread open incase it decides to disappear again!

If you have HP's Webcam program running in the background (check the System Tray), please exit the same before you fire up Skype.
You should now be able to use the webcam for video calls on Skype.
