I came home from work and my kids said the pc was hopelessy messed up. I thought it was the usual garden variety of stuff, so I put it in safe mode and ran Malwarebytes. It picked up two trojans, one was trojan.doppler and I forget about the other one. I didn't think I would get to the place I am right now, so I didn't keep records very well.

After the threat actually disabled Trendmicro so it wouldn't update, the I realized I was in over my head. I followed your advice, and downloaded Stopzilla but it wouldn't install on my pc, even with Trendmicro disabled. I went to several tech support sites and was redirected to another site Tanzinga. Before Trend Micro was disabled, it said 51 files were infected and quaranteened, chief among them was a trend micro file.

I could not downlod anything on this pc, IE was unable to surf altogether and Firefox had limited surfing. I downloaded the files you suggested, Defogger, DDS, and Gmer from another pc because this one would not allow surfing to any site at the time that was a tech support resource to stop viruses.

Recently I get popups in the system tray saying that I am being attacked by a virus, BankerFox.A and Win32/Nuquel.E, and it wants to know if I want to block the attack. If I open any file or application now, it flashes up briefly and then I get a security alert saying it can't open the file because it is infected with a virus. Then if I just sit there and do nothing, it opens an embarrasing webiste like viagra or gay porn and asks me again if I was to enable my protection. if I say yes it puts me to the AntiVir website, wanting me to buy their software. If I say no, it flashes through the attack some more to try to convince me to buy.

Update: I poked around in your tutorials and tools and found rkill in the AntiVir removal.
I found if I used rkill first, I could then enable the defogger. I also had HJT on my pc from an earlier time. I found one line that I could remove "R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyServer = http=' so I unchecked it and my IE was then able to operate. I wasn't out of the woods yet, but I miraculously was able with rkill and defogger to get to Macafee and download their stinger. After running it, I got rid of another trojan. (It also pointed out rkill was a trojan, but sometimes antiviruses are like that, over-cautious) At this point I was able to turn my Trendmicro antivirus and firewall back on and get it updated. I couldn't update MBAM, so I went to their site and downloaded their latest version and got it installed right over the top of the old one. From there I ran rkill and defogger in safe mode and ran MBAM. It found 2 more trojans and seven instances of worm.prolaco. Now everything seems to be back in the pink Thanx for this site and all your resources. Rkill and defogger were lifesavers when I needed to get a handhold and dig myself out of a hole.
