What kind of redirect? Home page? URL entered takes you to wrong place?

when in internet explorer and i perform a search and find a topic and website to select. when i select the website it takes a long time fo r the site to come up. Then i look in the address bar and it will read www.result.yahoo and refers me to either adware, spyware or porn site. i can normally back page to the search engine and click on the same identical site and this time it actually takes me to the desired site. occasionally i will get a pop up about security setting and i have to use task manager to close it because i am aware if i hit either no or try to close it will still try to download something.
