Hello kathi,

Please confirm that you have run the following scans or run them now.
Save any logs that you generate - we may need them later.
Do not post any logs unless I ask you.

Also, please provide me with a description of the problem you are experiencing.

***************************************************

Please download, update and run (one at a time of course!)
Spybot 1.4 and Adaware SE 1.06.r1

Fix whatever they suggest.

***************************************************

If you need help running these tools, here are some helpful tutorials.
Spybot Tutorial
Adaware SE Tutorial

***************************************************

Be sure to run Adaware SE with a Full Scan in the Safe Mode.

How to Reboot into Safe Mode
tap F8 key during reboot, until the boot menu appears...use the arrow keys to choose "Safe Mode" from the menu......,then press the "Enter" key.

The following explains how to set Ad-aware's settings to perform a "Full Scan."

In Ad-aware click the Gear to go to the Settings area.

The following items should be on a green check, not on a red X.

Under the Scanning button:
Scan within archives
Under Memory & Registry, Check EVERYTHING
In Check Drives & Folders, make sure all of your hard drives are selected

Under the Advanced button, check ALL under Log detail level.

Under the Tweak button...

Some of these may not be an available option, depending on your version of Ad-aware and your version of Windows. Do not be concerned if you cannot select a certain item.

In Scanning Engine:
Unload recognized processes during scanning
Include info about ignored objects in logfile, if detected in scan
Include basic Ad-aware settings in logfile
Include additional Ad-aware settings in logfile
Include used command line parameters in logfile

In Cleaning Engine:
XP/2000: Allow unloading explorer to unload shell extensions prior to deletion
Let Windows remove files in use at next reboot
UNCHECK: Automatically try to unregister objects prior to deletion

Click Proceed to save these settings. When you would like to perform a "Full Scan," switch the scan mode from SmartScan to Custom.

***************************************************

Please download, update and run the free A2 (A squared) anti-trojan

Let it fix whatever it wants to.
Save the log file by clicking on "Save HTML-Report".

***************************************************

I know you may have anti-virus software, but sometimes its definitions are corrupted due to malware. Online scans are the best resort in this case.
Run this pc through the
Trend Micro Housecall Online virus scanner
or
Panda Scan Online virus scanner

Let it delete whatever if finds. If it cannot delete it, then let me know the names and locations and we will delete it manually.

***************************************************

Next, reboot and post a fresh HijackThis log to this thread.

I ran all of the above scans as directed, I've also installed all recommended Microsoft updates. I continue to get a filo pop up whenever I use Internet Explorer. Seems like I get it most often when pulling up Google, if that makes any difference. The following is my lates HJ log:

Hi kathi,

You have a trojan and several adult content dialers your computer.
Not to worry, we will soon have them off.

*******************************************

How to Reboot into Safe Mode
tap F8 key during reboot, until the boot menu appears...use the arrow keys to choose "Safe Mode" from the menu......,then press the "Enter" key.

Please boot into Safe Mode and select the following with HijackThis.
With all windows (including this one!) closed (close browser/explorer windows), please select "fix.

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://www.microsoft.com/isapi/redir.dll?p...B_PVER}&ar=home
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,Default_Search_URL = http://www.searchv.com/search.html
O16 - DPF: {33331111-1111-1111-1111-622221193458} - file://c:\ex.cab
O16 - DPF: {56336BCB-3D8A-11D6-A00B-0050DA18DE71} (RdxIE Class) - http://software-dl.real.com/26de604e0af321...ip/RdxIE601.cab
O16 - DPF: {64311111-1111-1121-1111-111191113457} - file://c:\eied_s7.cab

If this Domain does not belong to your Internet Service Provider, or your firms network, these entries should be fixed. Do you know the Internet Provider or Domain '205.188.146.145'? If not, fix this
O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{B30CC495-0ADC-4BE3-8E99-63352D5633ED}: NameServer = 205.188.146.145

O21 - SSODL: SystemCheck2 - {54645654-2225-4455-44A1-9F4543D34546} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\vbsys2.dll

*******************************************

Next, we're going on a file hunt.
Go to My Computer and double-click C.
Go to the Tools menu and select 'Folder Options'.
On the 'View' tab select 'show hidden files and folders' and deselect (uncheck) 'hide protected operating system files (recommended)'.

Using Windows Explorer, find and delete each of the following. If you can't delete an item, right-click it and click properties. Make sure 'read-only' is unchecked.
If you still can't delete something, right-click it and rename it to a random word. Then drag the item to a different location. Try deleting it now. If you still can't, be sure to let me know. Folders and files with a tilde (~), means that there is a file/folder that starts with the six characters in front of the tilde, note that there may be spaces in the name.

Using Windows Explorer, delete the following files/folders in bold (Do not be concerned if they do not exist)

C:\WINDOWS\System32\vbsys2.dll <==file

*******************************************

CCleaner Tutorial

Let's empty the temp files:

Download CCleaner and install it. (default location is best).
Select the Windows Tab, Run CCleaner, (click Run Cleaner (bottom right) then, when it finishes scanning click Exit.)
When you see "Complete" on the top line, it's done. It's very fast.

I recommend that you DO NOT run anything under the Issues button and the Applications Tab. Uncheck everything under the Applications tab.
Under the Options, Advanced tab
be sure to UNCHECK Only delete files in Windows Temp folder older than 48 hours

*******************************************

Finally, reboot to the Normal Mode and post a new Hijackthis log, and tell me how your computer is running.

 grrr... well, at least it looks like I came to the right place for help. Now, before I go and do what you have listed above....you said:

If this Domain does not belong to your Internet Service Provider, or your firms network, these entries should be fixed. Do you know the Internet Provider or Domain '205.188.146.145'?

If not, fix this
O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{B30CC495-0ADC-4BE3-8E99-63352D5633ED}: NameServer = 205.188.146.145

Ok, I wouldn't have the slightest clue what that internet provider or domain could be...but thats not to say it shouldn't be on my computer, right? How would I find out if thats something that is supposed to be there? Figured I had better ask (even if its an obviously stupid question!) before I went and messed something up!

Thanks!
Kathi

Hi Kathi,
Goog question! I should have done a lookup for you.

I just did a WHOIS on that 205.188.146.145 and it says it is AOL.
Are you on AOL?
:flowers: If you are in doubt, then just do nothing with that line, but fix the others.

Ok, I'm almost there. I've done everything except for the CCleaner. In regards to running CC, you said that I should NOT run anything under the Issues button or the Applications tab. You then go on to say that I should uncheck everything under the Applications tab. Does that mean I should also uncheck everything under Issues? Or, does that mean to just select the Cleaner tab instead of Issues?

Yes. As long as you do not select the Issues tab and run it.

Or, does that mean to just select the Cleaner tab instead of Issues?

Just select the Cleaner tab (not the Issues tab) and use the default selection.
The Cleaner tab is where you will delete the temp files, and it is the only thing you should be running.

Read the CCleaner tutorial I included with my thread so you have an idea of what the tool does.
