hello, i'm having a problem with the wave in my volume control gets muted, random pop up ads from Internet Explorer, clicking noise even when I am not clicking on anything. I mainly use Google Chrome, I have windows xp professional and service pack 3.
Also, I have ran Ad-Aware, AVG & Malwarebytes' but it did not detect anything.
I tried to run GMER program but the computer does a restart before the scan is done.

Hi remus3, and welcome to Bleeping Computer.

This looks like a Whistler Bootkit infection...

Please download MBRCheck by a_d_13 to your Desktop from one of these locations:
http://ad13.geekstogo.com/MBRCheck.exe
http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/rootrepeal/MBRCheck.exe
http://www.kernelmode.info/MBRCheck.exe

Close all opened programs/ windows and double-click on MBRCheck.exe.
It will produce a log file saved automatically on your Desktop as "MBRCheck_[Date]_[Time].txt".

Press the "Enter" key to close the MBRCheck window and post the contents of the log file.

This indeed looks good!.. thumbup2.gif

What tool have you used to remove that infection??..

I find this entry in your log odd:
mWinlogon: SfcDisable=-99 (0xffffff9d) - this disables the Windows File Protection...

Have you used nLite??.. I'd say the setting above may be related to it...

We need to update outdated programs (with security vulnerabilities) on your machine:

- Adobe Acrobat Reader:

You're using an old version of Adobe Acrobat Reader, this can leave your PC open to vulnerabilities...
Run Adobe Reader --> Help --> Check for updates - let it update to the newest version - 9.3.3

- Java

Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add or Remove Programs and remove:
Java™ 6 Update 18

Then,
  • Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6.
  • Scroll down to where it says "JDK 6 Update 21 (JDK or JRE)".
  • Click the "Download JRE" button to the right.
  • In the Window that opens, select Windows, your Language, check the "agree" box and click Continue.
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation and save to your Desktop.
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
  • Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u21-windows-i586.exe that you downloaded to install the newest version.

- Adobe Flash Player:

To make sure you have the latest version of Adobe Flash Player installed:
1. To uninstall an older version, download this file to your Desktop: uninstall_flash_player.exe
2. Quit ALL running applications, including all Internet Explorer or other browser windows, and messenger applications (like AOL Instant Messenger, Yahoo Messenger, MSN Messenger.
3. Double-click on the file you've downloaded to uninstall Flash.
4. If uninstalled successfully, go to this site: Install Adobe Flash Player, and choose Agree and install now. This will install the newest version of Flash for your browser (note: Flash plugins for IE and Firefox must be installed separately).
Note: I recommend you uncheck an optional install (Free McAfee Security Scan or Free Google Toolbar).

- Mozilla Firefox

Run the application --> Help --> Check for updates - let it update to the newest version - 3.6.8

Then,

Please scan your computer with ESET OnlineScan
  1. Hold down Control and click on the following link to open ESET OnlineScan in a new window.
    ESET OnlineScan
  2. Click the button.
  3. For alternate browsers only: (Microsoft Internet Explorer users can skip these steps)
    1. Click on to download the ESET Smart Installer. Save it to your desktop.
    2. Double click on the icon on your desktop.
  4. Check
  5. Click the button.
  6. Accept any security warnings from your browser.
  7. Check
  8. Push the Start button.
  9. ESET will then download updates for itself, install itself, and begin scanning your computer. Please be patient as this can take some time.
  10. When the scan completes, push
  11. Push , and save the file to your desktop using a unique name, such as ESETScan. Include the contents of this report in your next reply.
  12. Push the button.
  13. Push

And:
Please restore your Proxy settings as they have been modified by malware...
To do this:
In Internet Explorer: Tools Menu -> Internet Options -> Connections Tab ->Lan Settings > uncheck "use a proxy server" and check to "Automatically detect settings".
In Firefox in Tools Menu -> Options... -> Advanced Tab -> Network Tab -> "Settings" under Connection.

Hello

I dont really know what i have done to fix the problem, but i have followed some steps from another topic on this site.
I have updated almost everythin except flash player, i have removed the old version but i can't dowload the latest one. I think the site is broken or something like that.

ESETScan results:

C:\Documents and Settings\Remco\Local Settings\Temp\NERO13349\Toolbar.exe Win32/Toolbar.AskSBar application cleaned by deleting - quarantined

In most cases, all instructions are only designed for a specific user - in some cases it's even dangerous to proceed with instructions from the different thread... Anyway, I'm glad you solved the problem on your own - I know it was partly because of you waiting for a reply for so long (we've been swamped with the amount of logs)...

You're welcome!.. thumbup2.gif

If no problem remains:

Firstly,
To remove all of the tools we used and the files and folders they created, please do the following:
Please download OTC.exe by OldTimer:
  • Save it to your Desktop.
  • Double click OTC.exe.
  • Click the CleanUp! button.
  • If you are prompted to Reboot during the cleanup, select Yes.
  • The tool will delete itself once it finishes.
Note: If any tool, file or folder (belonging to the program we have used) hasn't been deleted, please delete it manually.

Secondly,
Please, set up a new System Restore point:

Turn off System Restore

To turn off System Restore, follow these steps:
1. Click Start, right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
2. Click the System Restore tab.
3. Select the Turn off System Restore check box (or the Turn off System Restore on all drives check box), and then click OK.
4. Click Yes when you receive the prompt to the turn off System Restore.

The to turn it back on
1. Wait for Windows to finish clearing Restore Points.
2. Clear the Turn off System Restore check box (or the Turn off System Restore on all drives check box), and then click OK.

Please check my site - snemelk.hekko.pl:
Also, I recommend you to read Grinler's excellent article: How did I get infected?, With steps so it does not happen again!
