Referred from here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/332780/browser-hijacked-redirects/ ~ OB

After a virus attack / spyware attack last week, which I think I have managed to remove most of it using all the usual recommended software, I still have a remaining problem that my firefox browser keeps opening new tabs with random weird URL's ... the pages don't actually load though. Clearly there is some virus / malware or something present / corrupted in my system still. I have no idea how to repair it.

All my scanners come up with nothing, so I get the impression that its the damage the virus has caused which needs to be rectified, but for all I know there could be more unknown viruses that are super stealthy or brand new. The only other odd behaviour I am noticing is that Ad-aware live keeps automatically blocking IP addresses from 'attacks' every now and then, this may also be completely common, or it may be a sign that I have malicious software on my pc still?

I have just followed all the advice in the following post and have now been advised to post here following the preparation guide steps 6-9 which I have just done.

Please see my
1) DDS log pasted below
2) attach.txt file uploaded
3) ark.txt file uploaded - TO BE POSTED TOMORROW WHEN THIS GMER SCAN FINISHES

FYI

my position has now deteriorated....

First thing I noticed was that I couldn't open a game called alien swarm, instead I was presented with a messagebox (rather amusing one i must admit) -- saying I couldn't play alien swarm because my pc is infected with the alien swarm bug ..... LOL

then I realised I couldn't keep taskmanager open..

then I couldn't open any folders.....

and then a strange program appeared in taskbar (installed itself) ....

right now I have no option but to run more scans.... I'm very tempted to format

Right I think i've solved my problem now. thanks to Microsoft Security Essentials. Turns out I had 2 major severe rootkits on my pc.

2 severe rootkits!!

Virus:Win32/Alureon.H

http://www.microsoft.com/security/po...32%2fAlureon.H

Summary
Virus:Win32/Alureon.H is a detection for system drivers infected by members of the Win32/Alureon family.

Win32/Alureon is a multi-component family of trojans involved in a broad range of subversive activities online in order to generate revenue from various sources for its controllers. Mostly, Win32/Alureon is associated with moderating affected user's activities online to the attacker's benefit. As such, the various components of this family have been used for:

*
modifying affected user's search results (search hijacking)
*
redirecting affected user's browsing to sites of the attacker's choice (browser hijacking)
*
changing Domain Name System (DNS) settings in order to redirect users to sites of the attacker's choice without the affected user's knowledge
*
downloading and executing arbitrary files, including additional components and other malware
*
serving illegitimate advertising
*
installing Rogue security software
*
banner clicking

Win32/Alureon also utilizes advanced stealth techniques in order to hinder the detection and removal of its various components.

Some variants of this trojan may modify DNS settings on the host computer to enable the attacker to perform these tasks. Therefore it may be necessary to reconfigure DNS settings after the trojan is removed from the computer.

I'll post back if something goes wrong again.

Hello and welcome to Bleeping Computer

We apologize for the delay in responding to your request for help. Here at Bleeping Computer we get overwhelmed at times, and we are trying our best to keep up. Please note that your topic was not intentionally overlooked. Our mission is to help everyone in need, but sometimes it takes just a little longer to get to every request for help. No one is ignored here.

If you have since resolved the original problem you were having, we would appreciate you letting us know. If not please perform the following steps below so we can have a look at the current condition of your machine.

Please include a clear description of the problems you're having, along with any steps you may have performed so far.

Please refrain from running tools or applying updates other than those we suggest while we are cleaning up your computer. The reason for this is so we know what is going on with the machine at any time. Some programs can interfere with others and hamper the recovery process.

Even if you have already provided information about your PC, we need a new log to see what has changed since you originally posted your problem.
We need to create an OTL Report
  1. Please download OTL from one of the following mirrors:
  2. Save it to your desktop.
  3. Double click on the icon on your desktop.
  4. Click the "Scan All Users" checkbox.
  5. In the custom scan box paste the following:
    CODE
    msconfig
    safebootminimal
    activex
    drivers32
    netsvcs
    %SYSTEMDRIVE%\*.exe
    /md5start
    eventlog.dll
    scecli.dll
    netlogon.dll
    cngaudit.dll
    sceclt.dll
    ntelogon.dll
    logevent.dll
    iaStor.sys
    nvstor.sys
    atapi.sys
    IdeChnDr.sys
    viasraid.sys
    AGP440.sys
    vaxscsi.sys
    nvatabus.sys
    viamraid.sys
    nvata.sys
    nvgts.sys
    iastorv.sys
    ViPrt.sys
    eNetHook.dll
    ahcix86.sys
    KR10N.sys
    nvstor32.sys
    ahcix86s.sys
    nvrd32.sys
    symmpi.sys
    adp3132.sys
    mv61xx.sys
    nvraid.sys
    /md5stop
    %systemroot%\*. /mp /s
    %systemroot%\system32\*.dll /lockedfiles
    %systemroot%\Tasks\*.job /lockedfiles
    %systemroot%\system32\drivers\*.sys /lockedfiles
    %systemroot%\System32\config\*.sav
    %systemroot%\system32\drivers\*.sys /90
  6. Push the button.
  7. Two reports will open, copy and paste them in a reply here:
    • OTL.txt <-- Will be opened
    • Extra.txt<--Will be minimized

In the upper right hand corner of the topic you will see a button called Options. If you click on this in the drop-down menu you can choose Track this topic. I suggest you do this and select Immediate E-Mail notification and click on Proceed. This way you will be advised when we respond to your topic and facilitate the cleaning of your machine.

After 5 days if a topic is not replied to we assume it has been abandoned and it is closed.
