Same Network Different Speeds

So I have these two computers. The main computer I use is directly connected to an N router. The second one has an N adapter to connect to the first one. Speedtest.net shows similar results for both computers at 20Mbps. However, when I stream videos, especially on a site that uses the DivX player (like stagevu or icefilms), both computers have different download speeds. The main computer, with the N router, has a download speed that averages out to 2000KB/s while the second computer, with the N adapter, hardly maintains 250KB/s. These speeds remain the same whether the main computer is turned off or is running bandwidth demanding applications.

Is there anyway to fix this so both computers have ~2000KB/s download speeds? Or is a direct connection to the router really this faster than Wi-Fi?

Direct connect is going to be faster.
