Hello, first of all thank you for your help. I will start at the begining: About a week ago I became infected with the AV security virus scareware bug, and I was not able to use my computer at all because it had put a proxy server on my computer, so then I logged on to the other user on this same laptop and was able to research this virus a little on the internet and with some help from your site I realized that the proxy was put on so I removed it and I ran MBAM and removed some infections. Then my computer was seeming to run fine. Then about a day later I noticed that every time I did a google search I was redirected to a different site and I am also getting random pop-ups for different sites. I also noticed my computer was running a little slower than normal. I ran the DDS and GMER and I will post both of them on here, thank you!!

Hello, I am still here. I would have replied earlier but today when I logged on to my computer I pulled up my email and saw that you had replied to my question so I clicked on the link to see what you had said and I was directed to a IE page that said "IE can not diplay this page" then my computer was running extremly slow and the internet was not working at all so I ran another MBAM quick scan and it found one infection and I removed it. Then about 3 hours later I came back to my computer and restarted it and the internet was working again all of a sudden and I was allowed to view this site now, so I am not sure what was up with that? But thank you for your helping me on this!

Can you post the MBAM log which shows what it found and removed.

Find the logs in the MBAM program, there is a tab called Logs where you can copy and paste the report.

Here is the mbam log from today. I also wanted to mention that when I ran gmer it shut my computer down so I do not think that I obtained the entire log from gmer previously on the first post.

That isn't giving us much of a clue. tongue.gif

Please run Combofix

Please download ComboFix from one of these locations:* IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop making sure you rename it comfix.exe
  • Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. (Click on this link to see a list of programs that should be disabled. The list is not all inclusive.)
  • Double click on Comfix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.
  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.
**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.

No, 20 minutes is usual for infected machines. Stop the scan and run this one instead.
  • Download OTL to your desktop.
  • Double click on the icon to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted.
  • When the window appears, underneath Output at the top change it to Minimal Output.
  • Under the Standard Registry box change it to All.
  • Check the boxes beside LOP Check and Purity Check.
  • Click the Run Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long.
    • When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows. OTL.Txt and Extras.Txt. These are saved in the same location as OTL.
    • Please copy (Edit->Select All, Edit->Copy) the contents of these files, one at a time, and post it with your next reply.

Run OTL again

Under the Custom Scans/Fixes box at the bottom, paste in the following

CODE
:OTL
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {02478D38-C3F9-4efb-9B51-7695ECA05670} - No CLSID value found.

""=""%1" %*"

Then click the Run Fix button at the top

Let the program run unhindered.

When done it will say "Fix Complete press ok to open the log"
Please post that log in your next reply. Note: If a file or folder cannot be moved immediately you may be asked to reboot the machine to finish the move process. If you are asked to reboot the machine choose Yes. In this case, after the reboot, open Notepad (Start->All Programs->Accessories->Notepad), click File->Open, in the File Name box enter *.log and press the Enter key, navigate to the C:\_OTL\MovedFiles folder, and open the newest .log file present, and copy/paste the contents of that document back here in your next post.

Please run MBAM again for me

Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop.
  • Make sure you are connected to the Internet.
  • Double-click on mbam-setup.exe to install the application or, if you are using Vista, right-click and select Run As Administrator on mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
  • When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings.
  • When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:
    • Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
    • Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • Then click Finish.
  • MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan. If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself. Press the OK button to close that box and continue. If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download them from here and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install.
  • On the Scanner tab:
    • Make sure the "Perform Full Scan" option is selected.
    • Then click on the Scan button.
  • If asked to select the drives to scan, leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button.
  • The scan will begin and "Scan in progress" will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient.
  • When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".
  • Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.
  • Back at the main Scanner screen, click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad.
  • The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply and exit MBAM.
Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you may be asked to reboot your computer so it can proceed with the disinfection process. Regardless if prompted to restart the computer or not, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot normally (not into safe mode) will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware. MBAM may make changes to your registry as part of its disinfection routine. If you're using other security programs that detect registry changes, they may alert you after scanning with MBAM. Please permit the program to allow the changes.

They seem to be gone right now :D! They did go away once before but that was right after I fixed the av security scare thing, and they were only gone for about 2 days so hopefully they stay away this time! Thank you so much! I also wanted to ask you something else, my mother had this same thing on her computer in a different house so I told her to download MBAM and run it and it found a few infections and removed them, and now she said that she had not seen anything in a few days do you think it could be fixed or do you think she should still have someone look into it?? Thanks so much, I really appreciate all the help!

First, the redirects on your PC shouldn't now return.

We still have a few things to do, please run the ESET online scanner
  1. Hold down Control and click on the following link to open ESET OnlineScan in a new window.
    ESET OnlineScan
  2. Click the button.
  3. For alternate browsers only: (Microsoft Internet Explorer users can skip these steps)
    1. Click on to download the ESET Smart Installer. Save it to your desktop.
    2. Double click on the icon on your desktop.
  4. Check
  5. Click the button.
  6. Accept any security warnings from your browser.
  7. Leave the top box checked and then check
  8. Push the Start button.
  9. ESET will then download updates for itself, install itself, and begin scanning your computer. Please be patient as this can take some time.
  10. When the scan completes, push
  11. Push , and save the file to your desktop using a unique name, such as ESETScan. Include the contents of this report in your next reply.
  12. Push the button.
  13. Push
NOTE: If no malware is found then no log will be produced. Let me know if this is the case.

Second, MBAM is only one tool and if your mother wants to be sure that it won't return then she should post something in the Am I Infected forum - that is more appropriate for a clean up but they may still choose to refer her to this forum depending on what they find.
