Corrupted user account?

Is it possible to have a corrupted account? I have two accounts and when I boot and select the one I normally use, the screen goes blank. If I reboot and choose the other one (which I don't use), I get access to the computer and can do most things. Is there a way to fix this short of an OS reinstall?
