Ultimate goal: to print at printer (connected to desktop) from wife's wireless laptop.

Current configuration: desktop direct connected to router (desktop not wireless), Epson printer connected to desktop via USB, laptop currently connected wireless to Internet via router.

I've read about Win 7 'ad hoc networks' but am confused .... sounds like the desktop has to have a wireless adapter. TRUE?

If so, can I still connect to router directly from desktop for Internet?

Just share the print. Whatever OS is on the desktop google "Your OS sharing a printer" then google "Connecting Windows 7 to a shared printer on your OS"

Since you and your wife both connect to the same router, there is no reason to try to connect the laptop to the desktop directly cause the router will handle the connection for you =)

Hope this helps thumbup.gif
