Last month I noticed that my fans were blowing somewhat loud. So I opened her up and cleaned out the dust. Noticed that this didnt do much. The fans blowing sounds smoother but they don't stop blowing.

I started researching and found some information that it could be some type of virus thats running in the background. So I tried to understand the processes that were shown in task manager however I couldnt find anything out of the ordinary for me (not tech savvy). I did notice that my cpu usage seemed normal and low however my physical memory was to the max. Not sure if thats normal.

I did some scans with ad-aware and ended up finding a gazillion things but I felt as though something was still lurking. So I decided to reinstall my OS. Only problem I couldnt locate the recovery discs and Im starting to believe that I didnt get any when I purchased the pc. So I did a system Recovery. Everything was going smooth. The fan had finally stopped running and then BOOM....it started back up out of nowhere. I did a little more research and learned that if I didnt wipe the drive I could still have malware. Then I read somewhere that I couldnt wipe the drive unless I had recovery discs.

Really confused at this point... wacko.gif

I was able to run DDS and obtain the logs however I had trouble with gmer. It installed okay. During the first run I received a blue screen saying that a problem occurred. Before I could read the rest of the screen my pc automatically restarted. I tried to run gmer again but it was running super slow. I restarted again and tried to run gmer once again and it wouldnt even run on that try.

Im stuck between three things

1. Malware
2. Maybe I damaged something while cleaning, but I didnt do anything different than what I normally do.
(remove the heat sink, side fans, blow out the power box)....wait one thing different was I removed a graphics card that I had installed a while back and I removed the fan from it and cleaned that. I have not reinstalled the graphics card software after recovery but the card is still in my pc. not being used.
3. I did notice that the thermal grease under the heatsink was just about gone. Maybe residue left. Going to the store to purchase that today.

Sorry this was so long. Heres my info from DDS.

Hello and welcome to Bleeping Computer

We apologize for the delay in responding to your request for help. Here at Bleeping Computer we get overwhelmed at times, and we are trying our best to keep up. Please note that your topic was not intentionally overlooked. Our mission is to help everyone in need, but sometimes it takes just a little longer to get to every request for help. No one is ignored here.

If you have since resolved the original problem you were having, we would appreciate you letting us know. If not please perform the following steps below so we can have a look at the current condition of your machine.

If you have not done so, include a clear description of the problems you're having, along with any steps you may have performed so far.

Upon completing the steps below another staff member will review and take the steps necessary with you to get your machine back in working order clean and free of malware.

If you have already posted a DDS log, please do so again, as your situation may have changed.
Use the 'Add Reply' and add the new log to this thread.

Thanks and again sorry for the delay.

We need to see some information about what is happening in your machine. Please perform the following scan:
  • Download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links. Save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
  • A small box will open, with an explaination about the tool. No input is needed, the scan is running.
  • Notepad will open with the results.
  • Follow the instructions that pop up for posting the results.
  • Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.
Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run. After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection. Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet.

Information on A/V control HERE

We also need a new log from the GMER anti-rootkit scanner. Please first disable any CD emulation programs using the steps found in this topic:

Why we request you disable CD Emulation when receiving Malware Removal Advice

Then create another GMER log and post it as an attachment to the reply where you post your new DDS log. Instructions on how to properly create a GMER log can be found here:

How to create a GMER log

Casey

If I have been helping you and I do not reply within 48hours, feel free to send me a PM.
