I originally posted this to the Vista Operating System section and was told it probably needed to be listed here to check for malware. The link to the original thread is here for you:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/331776/windows-vista-home-premium-performance-issues/

Per that thread, I have run DDS and included the logs below:

I have copied and pasted the thread I posted to the wrong topic for you reference below:

Post 1
I am experience major performance issues on my son's Toshiba Satellite laptop running Windows Vista Home Premium, SP1. The computer, in general, is very sluggish when attempting to launch applications and has significant slow downs when attempting to navigate web sites via Internet Explorer. The web browser even has problems when attempting to do simple items such as pulling the vertical scroll bar from top to bottom. Are there tools or logs that someone could assist me with to decipher the issues?

Here is what has been done thus far:

1. Malware scans with mbam
2. Virus scans using Avira
3. Windows updates applied
4. IE updated to IE 8

Post 2
Thank you for the quick reply. I am installing SP2 at this time. I have also tried Chrome with similar performance issues. It seems to be an over OS issue as all applications are sluggish. I have also noticed that it appears the HDD is being accessed more I would expect, even when I would consider the system idle.

Post 3
With the information you have provided I believe you will need help from the malware removal team. I would like you to start a new thread and post a DDS log HERE and include a link to this thread. Please make sure that you read the information about getting started before you start your thread.

It would be helpful if you post a note here once you have completed the steps in the guide and have started your topic in malware removal. Good luck and be patient. Help is on the way!

That is what has brought me to this topic.

Thanks, in advance, for the assistance!

Well, this has now been posted for almost a week and I haven't had a reply from anyone. Don't want to be pushy, but afraid maybe this one got overlooked? Any insight you can provide would be appreciated.

Hello and welcome to Bleeping Computer

We apologize for the delay in responding to your request for help. Here at Bleeping Computer we get overwhelmed at times, and we are trying our best to keep up. Please note that your topic was not intentionally overlooked. Our mission is to help everyone in need, but sometimes it takes just a little longer to get to every request for help. No one is ignored here.

If you have since resolved the original problem you were having, we would appreciate you letting us know. If not please perform the following steps below so we can have a look at the current condition of your machine.

If you have not done so, include a clear description of the problems you're having, along with any steps you may have performed so far.

Upon completing the steps below another staff member will review and take the steps necessary with you to get your machine back in working order clean and free of malware.

If you have already posted a DDS log, please do so again, as your situation may have changed.
Use the 'Add Reply' and add the new log to this thread.

Thanks and again sorry for the delay.

We need to see some information about what is happening in your machine. Please perform the following scan:
  • Download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links. Save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
  • A small box will open, with an explaination about the tool. No input is needed, the scan is running.
  • Notepad will open with the results.
  • Follow the instructions that pop up for posting the results.
  • Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.
Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run. After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection. Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet.

Information on A/V control HERE

We also need a new log from the GMER anti-rootkit scanner. Please first disable any CD emulation programs using the steps found in this topic:

Why we request you disable CD Emulation when receiving Malware Removal Advice

Then create another GMER log and post it as an attachment to the reply where you post your new DDS log. Instructions on how to properly create a GMER log can be found here:

How to create a GMER log

Casey

If I have been helping you and I do not reply within 48hours, feel free to send me a PM.

Hi,

I apologize for the delay in responding to you. Unfortunately, I have been on vacation and was not able to act upon your response until now. I have asked for a Malware Removal team member to help you with your problems as a priority. If you could just confirm that you are still in need on help, that would be great.

Thanks,

Casey

Thanks, Casey. The computer is still functional but I would like to verify that there is nothing still going on. I had kinda given up on this post.

Sorry about the wait there. smile.gif

Let's first get an OTL scan so we can take a look at the system.
  • Download OTL to your desktop.
  • Double click on the icon to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted.
  • When the window appears, underneath Output at the top change it to Minimal Output.
  • Under the Standard Registry box change it to All.
  • Check the boxes beside LOP Check and Purity Check.
  • Click the Run Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long.
    • When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows. OTL.Txt and Extras.Txt. These are saved in the same location as OTL.
    • Please copy (Edit->Select All, Edit->Copy) the contents of these files, one at a time, and post it with your next reply.
