Okay, so a friend of mine got some viruses on his computer. He brought it to Best Buy and asked them to fix it without doing a system restore. They do a system restore. He loses 6 years of his life, pays someone $1k to recover all the lost files. They recover everything, including the virus. I spend several days trying to fix it. I get rid of everything but a search redirect virus which no scan can seem to find (I must have tried at least 7 or 8 different things). Eventually, I just move all the files to an external hard drive the guy that did the recovery gave him, and do another restore. Now, I have an infected external hard drive that seems to be immune to whatever I try to do. I brought it home to clean it, and need to return it to him in a few days. Any suggestions as to how to fix it?
