Hello! This is my first post here and I am very frustrated with my computer. I use Firefox as my browser and have had a couple of problems with it recently. First, 75% of the time, when I click on the link to a webpage of Google search results, I get redirected. Second, I don't really know how to describe it sometimes, when I load a webpage, I will get this weird version of the page. It wont have any of the normal graphics or the normal wallpaper. It will just be a white screen with bullet points of each link that the page and I would have to refresh to get the page back to normal. Third, this is a resolved problem but I figured I should mention it anyways. When I was using Firefox, when I when to a different page, like from a book mark, or even just typing the web address in, I would get a "Firefox cannot connect to server" problem. But, when I refreshed the page around three times, it would go back to the page.

My computer is also VERY VERY slow! It is a VERY old computer, though. I believe the computer is anywhere from 7-10 years old. I have given it a face lift to make it look like vista but other than that, it operates on Windows XP. I have just recently cleaned all the dust from it, and I have seen a little boost in speed, but not by much. Also, I do multitask on it a lot and I play a lot of online games like MMORPGs on it. I also use a lot of tabs on Firefox, the normal amount of tabs on one window at a given time is around 5-7 tabs. Also, I cannot post my GMER log, because every time I have run the program, It not only lags my computer, it takes up so much memory that when I have ANY other program running (except task manager sometimes) the computer becomes unresponsive and I have to manually shut it down. I really think it is the computer itself because it is so old, but I hope it is because there are a lot of viruses on it. I have had a few times where I have had to use system recovery because of internet problems (like not being able to connect ANY other program except firefox to the internet). I think the hard drive needs to be replaced as well, because I have heard those sounds that a computer shouldn't be making and mean that there is something wrong with the hard drive (I haven't heard those as of late, though). Thanks for reading this and now here is the stuff you need: (except the GMER log)

Sorry I haven't responded for four days, I have been very busy and have had little time to be on the computer. I have already downloaded DDS, so I will run it again. Here are the things you need:

DDS.txt: (From today)

DDS (Ver_10-03-17.01) - NTFSx86

Problems: I did not have any problems downloading or doing any of this. I have had problems with things like AV Security suite, and every once and a while I'll get that sort of virus (going under another name, though) even though I have done everything instructed to remove it. Other than being really slow sometimes, not being able to run GMER, The google redirection, and the AV security suite thing, My computer is doing pretty well for a very old computer. If you want anything else, or have a problem with anything, just tell me and I'll get right on it! Thank you so very much for helping me!

Greetings

One or more of the identified infections is a Backdoor Trojan. - TDSS rootkit

This could allow hackers to remotely control your computer, steal critical system information and download and execute files.

I would counsel you to disconnect this PC from the Internet immediately. If you do any banking or other financial transactions on the PC or if it should contain any other sensitive information, please get to a known clean computer and change all passwords where applicable, and it would be wise to contact those same financial institutions to apprise them of your situation.

Though the trojan has been identified and can be killed, because of it's backdoor functionality, your PC could be compromised and there is no way to be sure that your computer can ever again be trusted. Many experts in the security community believe that once infected with this type of trojan, the best course of action would be a reformat and reinstall of the OS. Please read these for more information:

How Do I Handle Possible Identify Theft, Internet Fraud and CC Fraud?
When Should I Format, How Should I Reinstall

We can still clean this machine but I can't guarantee that it will be 100% secure afterwards. "If you would like to continue, then follow the steps below, otherwise please let me know"

I Would like you to do the following.

Please print out or make a copy in notpad of any instructions given, as sometimes it is necessary to go offline and you will lose access to them.

Run Combofix:
Please visit this webpage for download links, and instructions for running the tool:

    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix

Please ensure you read this guide carefully and install the Recovery Console first.

The Windows Recovery Console will allow you to boot up into a special recovery (repair) mode.
This allows us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.
It is a simple procedure that will only take a few moments of your time.

Once installed, you should see a blue screen prompt that says:
The Recovery Console was successfully installed.
    Please continue as follows:
    • Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.
    • Click Yes to allow ComboFix to continue scanning for malware.

When the tool is finished, it will produce a report for you.

Please include the report in your next post:

    C:\ComboFix.txt

"information and logs"
In your next post I need the following
    1. Log from Combofix
    2. let me know of any problems you may have had
    3. How is the computer doing now?

This Is Very Unsettling news! I never imagined I had this type of virus on my computer! I will run combo fix, I just haven't been able to as of late, because I have been very very busy.

Hey Gringo! I have decided to run Combo fix in a little while, but I wanted to give you a status update first. Currently, I am not having problems with a google redirect, but I really haven't search on google lately. Also, I told you that I had to restore my computer because I couldn't get anything up on the internet except Firefox. Well, it is starting to happen again. My iTunes cannot connect to the iTunes store, and on my programs, if theres like a little page that requires an internet to be seen, (Like an advertisement on like a program like xfire), it will say "This Program cannot connect to the Internet" I cans till run All my MMORPGs and Firefox, but I think some of the applications can't get to the internet. I have also learned that my Uncle who is a computer expert put a backdoor trojan on this computer so he could fix it and run programs for maintenance and runs scans on it. Thank you for all your time! I have been REALLY busy lately an d I really appreciate your patience! Thanks so much!

I have tried running Combo fix, but it stopped and became unresponsive during the auto scan, I let it run for actually a whole day and when I tried to close it, it wouldn't close so I had to restart my computer!

Hello

I want you to run it in safe mode if it looks like it has stalled wait 30 min more and if nothing then stop it - if it needs to reboot make sure that you boot back into safe mode to finish the scan

Boot into Safe Mode

Reboot your computer in Safe Mode.
  • If the computer is running, shut down Windows, and then turn off the power.
  • Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the computer on.
  • Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.
  • Ensure that the Safe Mode option is selected.
  • Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.
  • Login on your usual account.
