Ive had many clients come into my shop in the last week with this thing. It is easily removable by the standard methods, but Ive been unsuccessful in actually securing the computers against. All the people infected with it, of course deny visiting any questionable websites or clicking yes on any popup dialogs.

Other than a normal antivirus (I have them running AVG), and making sure their windows are up to date, what else can I do to stop them from getting infected to begin with?

Welcome to BC roguenine

No amount of security software is going to defend against malware infection for those who do not use common sense and practice safe computing.

QM7's MODUS OPERANDI: "Knowledge and the ability to use it is the best defensive tool anyone could have. An uninformed user can be his or her own worst enemy when acting in ignorance."

In order to educate users who keep getting infected, here are a few useful articles you can refer them to read.
