i have tried updating windows with the latest security updates, but it just froze, and now the windows update icon is gone from my tray.
tried following directions to remove the worm manually from another website, going in and manually changing permissions for registry keys and it got confusing and what they were asking me to find and remove i wasn't finding. i abandoned that route.
i have tried using EconfickerRemover.exe and it didn't find that my computer was infected.
right now i am running Symantec W32.Downadup Removal Tool, its taking a while.
i also just download microsoft windows malicious software removal tool. we will see how this all works.
i will post again after i have completed these two steps. anything else i should be doing??
ok, scan result from symantec W32.Downadup Removal Tool didn't find the virus on my computer. below is the log from this scan.
scan with Malwarebytes found two infections: Trojan.BHO and Trojan.FakeAlert
i also scanned with Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool and it found nothing.
i managed to get windows updates and it found Service Pack 2, so i think i will install that.
also below is a DDS scan. please let me know if there is anything else i can/should do.
